From Katherine: I loooove looking at thermal polishes, so I love this post that the wonderfully creative Keely put together for us today! Keely does awesome nail art so be sure to check her out after you read this post!
Hi everyone! I'm Keely from Keely's Nails, and thank you so much to Katherine for letting me guest post for you today. I've got the Bow Polish Thermal Top Coat to show off today, but I'll introduce myself quickly first.
I've been into nail art for a really long time and a few years ago decided to start blogging as a way to keep track of my progress (as well as learning some technical skills). Since then, I've mastered stamping, watermarbling and Wordpress skills too! It's definitely been an adventure and I've made some great friends along the way.
It is very hot in the UK at the moment, so it isn't really the best time to be playing with thermal polishes. I couldn't resist the pull of this black, glittery top coat though. I'd seen Sveta Sanders videos last year and finally caved in and bought it.
Polishes and tools
My favourite base coat and top coat (at the moment Nailtiques and Seche Vite)
Cult Nails Faded and Disicplined
Hit The Bottle Black
Clear Jelly Stamper The Big Bling
MoYou London Suki 05
Bow Polish Thermal Top Coat
I can't handle my naked nails showing through, so I started with a grey base. Disciplined is quite a sheer holographic polish, so having a single coat of Faded underneath makes sense. I normally follow up with a layer of top coat so I have a firm base to stamp on.
Next, I stamped the design from the Suki plate, and can I just say thank you for clear stampers. They have finally allowed me to stamp a design straight! I have really curvy nails, so I always used a rolling technique across my nails to make sure I could even get the design on my whole nail. Getting a design straight was a distant dream!
There is another layer of top coat in here - I didn't want to experiment and find that the Bow Polish streaks the stamping, so I am playing it safe.
Bow Polish Thermal Top Coat
Finally, two coats of the thermal top coat. It is so hot here at the moment, it goes clear as soon as I brush it on - I'm not sure I got it all the way down to my cuticles as a result. To get the cold photo I had to get my hand straight from the cup of water to in front of the camera in a few seconds, but as you can see it was already transitioning.
It looks really great though, and I love showing off the transition to non-nail polish people - they are always amazed.
From Katherine: Thanks so much Keely! I think it looks awesome with that thermal layer on top, and I love the transition gradient. :) I really need to get my hands on some thermals! If you want to see more from Keely make sure to check out her blog, instagram, facebook and twitter!

Nice guest post. Love that you used a thermal polish too, the effect is so cool with the mani.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa! I'm thinking that thermal polishes are better for autumn/spring. I had such a tough time capturing it cold on camera 😂
DeleteAwesome look! The thermal top coat is really fun - I'm going to look out for it. :)
ReplyDeleteSo much fun Jess 👍🏻 I love watching people's reactions to it 👌🏻👌🏻
DeleteYour designs are always so artistic and fab! I wonder where you get your ideas? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean! Inspiration is everywhere, whether a pattern or texture, colour or sound. I love the challenge of turning it into a tiny piece of art.
DeleteI love how it looks! I would wear it in a different colour though, coz I love shiny colours in summer :) x
ReplyDeleteThanks Camelia! Definitely not traditional summer colours but thermal polishes come in all sorts of different colours so you can find the perfect one for you 👍🏻
DeleteThis is definitely the kind of nail art I would be chuffed with, i love nail polishes x
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's really good for catching people's eyes too, the colour change is dramatic!
DeleteLove this design. I love the fact that this is a darker look, in contrast to all the bright summer colours out there at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's great if you have had enough neon, but I think I'm just out of sync. I love the bright colours in January!
DeleteVery creative! I love the results you get with this :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jayne! I love the creative thinking challenge before I even start 😊
DeleteHave never heard of thermal nail polish before, sounds so good! I love having my nails done so am going to look into this. such nice designs
ReplyDeleteThank you Anosa 😊 Thermal polish comes in so many different colours I'm sure you'll find one you love too.
DeleteIm obsessed with all your designs, how do you do it so amazingly good?! Love them honestly. x
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm doing my nails really often, it just comes down to practice I think 😘
DeleteThe transition is awesome and I've never seen this before! Perfect for halloween too ;)
ReplyDeletePlease vote for The Fairytale Pretty Picture in the Amara Interior Blog Awards
Thanks Alina, it would be great for Halloween!
DeleteIt does look fab, I'm always amazed at the finish of these products. Something I will have to try for myself I think
ReplyDeleteThank you Zena, it's easy to give a thermal polish a go - nothing else needed for show stopping nails 👍🏻
DeleteOh my gosh, those look really pretty. I have always wanted to have detail like this on my nails but I haven't for two reasons. 1) I don't think I'd be able to do it by myself and 2) My nails keep breaking and splitting easily.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nikki! The details come from stamping, which is easy to do yourself, on both hands! Invest in some cuticle oil and slather it on until your nails can't absorb any more :) it takes a while for new growth to come through however.
DeleteThat is very pretty and looks great for halloween
ReplyDeleteThank you Kara, definitely perfect for Halloween 👍🏻
DeleteThis is such a cool design. I wish I was allowed to have nice nails but working in an operating theatre, I can't have them. You are so talented x
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame Kerry! Live vicariously through us then :)
