Essie 2016 Neons Collection

Ahh, my beauty supply store strikes again! They put the Essie 2016 Neons Collection out a week early! :) Of course as soon as I saw these lovelies I KNEW I had to have them. Which kind of made my debit card cry because I only went in for one China Glaze polish, but when you gotta have a new collection you gotta have it, you know?

Aside from the gorgeously perfect neon shades included in this collection, it made me super happy to see that (aside from the violet) my camera took all these swatches accurately! That's right, no need to edit the colour to make sure it's vibrant enough. I was super surprised but super happy when it came time to edit these.

Enough chit chat! You probably want me to get a move on, so let's get to the swatches!

Essie Stencil Me In

Let's start out with a bang! This gorgeous chartreuse highlighter yellow is Stencil Me In. Like all the shades it's a sheer jelly on it's own, so I have one coat of white layered under two coats of colour to get this level of opacity. These are also true neon shades so as expected this one actually dried matte. If you like that, cool! Otherwise you can do as I did here and add a layer of top coat for some gloss. :)

Next up is the bright blue In It To Wyn It! Why is 'win' spelt with a 'y'? I have no clue! If you know you should clue me in! Haha.

I applied two coats of the blue jelly over some white undies, and added a layer of top coat to gloss up the matte finish. This one applied a weeee bit streaky, but if it bothers you then you could add a third coat and I think you'd be fine.

Essie The Fuchsia of Art

Next up the most streaky of the lot, which is unfortunate. :( The Fuchsia of Art is a bold electric violet that requires a quick and steady hand for application. Each coat is streaky and dries really quickly, so you have to move quick and make sure not to let the polish pool at any part of the nail or you'll end up with darker and lighter patches.

Pictured here is two coats over white undies with top coat, but I think I really should have done three coats to try to even it out... Oh well, live and learn!

Essie Off The Wall

Essie 2016 Neon Collection Off the Wall

This collection has two gorgeous pinks! First up is Off The Wall which is a true neon bubblegum pink. I think this is one of my surprise favourites of the collection as I'm not usually a pink fan!

Two coats of colour over one coat of white is what's shown here, and I glossed up that matte neon finish with a layer of top coat at the end.

Essie Gallery Gal

The other pink in the collection has more of a coral tone. Gallery Girl is just as bright and bold of a neon shade as most of the others in the collection, and I think this is an awesome shade for summer. Sad I just got a new pedi, this would have been the perfect shade!

I used two coats of colour that applied pretty well, not nearly as much streaks as the violet. A white base coat is a must if you want the colour to come through as bold as this, and I finished it with a layer of top coat for gloss.

Essie Mark on Miami

Last up is this bright tropical orange: Mark on Miami! I love love love this shade, which is such a surprise as orange is not my colour! But it's just so bold and bright that you can't not love it!

Two coats over white, top coat to add gloss as it dries matte. You know the drill. ;) This was one of the best in terms of application, and I had zero issues with streaking.

And just for fun, here's a shot of all the shades without undies or top coat. As far as I'm concerned they're still gorgeous!

Overall I am IN LOVE SO MUCH with this collection! I've been freaking out over it on twitter and instagram this week, and I'm so happy to have finally been able to sit down to properly swatch them. Stencil Me In, Mark On Miami and Off The Wall are my favs but that's not saying much since as I said earlier THIS WHOLE COLLECTION IS MY JAM!

You aren't allowed to say you don't love this collection as much as I do, so I won't ask what you think of it.... Haha, just kidding. Though I don't know how anyone couldn't love it, to be honest. It's been so long since a mainstream brand put out a true neon collection (well, a few years at least) so it's awesome that this time neon actually means NEON.

Anywho, enough from me! Let me know what you think - is this a collection you'll need to pick up or are you all neon-ed out?

Thanks for visiting! xx

  7. Sad that a lot of them still look streaky even over the white undie, but they would prob work great for jelly sandwiches!

  8. Oh these are all lovely, shame about the streakiness of some of them but that's neon for you. I like off the wall the best! I like jelly polishes so I would wear some of the colours without undies xx
