Unboxing of my June 2015 Julep Maven Box

I'm a bit late with this box, and I want to apologize for that! It's been sitting on my desk for over a month practically unopened, if you can believe it. I went through a recent burst of swatching and art-ing and blogging and this box was one of the ones that got caught up in my whirlwind of productivity (along with my July box!) so here we are!

Let's jump right into it after the cut!

Review // Nubar Grapefruit Cuticle Care Oil

One thing a nail blogger can never have enough of is cuticle oil, in my opinion. It smoothes down rough cuticles, it moisturizes, it adds shine, and it usually smells great! Today I decided to try out a new-to-me cuticle oil from Nubar. Did I love it? Did I immediately throw it in the garbage? Check under the cut to find out!

One check off the nail art to-do list: summer beachy look encrusted with pearls and crystals! Woo! This is the type of design I've been wanting to do for years (literally) but it never felt like the right time. Well, once Born Pretty Store sent me some new starfish charms I knew the time was here! And I am ECSTATIC over how these nails turned out! Ahhhhh~!

Throwback Thursday (Vol 9)

I have some ooooold looks to share with you today, way back from July 2013! You can definitely see the difference in my posing, lighting and backgrounds compared to now, wow. Re-reading some of the posts I also noticed changes in my writing style. It's so interesting to look back like this - I know I've said it before but there really is value in being able to see the progress you've made from then to now. :)

Check under the cut for a look at the 5 throwback looks I've decided to share!

Bold Black and Gold Nautical Nail Art with Born Pretty Store Anchors

* Press Sample

Arrrrr! Today's nails were meant to be nautical themed but now that I'm writing this post all I can think of are pirates! I guess these nails are like what a fancy pirate would wear on their day off while they pretended to be just another sailor? ... I don't know. I don't even know what I'm talking about right now. Haha. Enough talk, let's look more at these nails (yo-ho!).

Hello lovelies!

Today I'm taking a look at some gorgeous floral water decals from Born Pretty Store which I've used in this mani on top of a soft and dreamy gradient. This combo makes me feel like I should be wearing these nails to a tea party or something equally frivolous and sweet. :)

Dry Brush Nail Art with the Essie Silk Watercolours

Dry brush nail art with Essie Muse, Myself, Pen & Inky and Highest Bidder

Hello nubbins, my old friends... That's right, my nails broke again. :( It probably has to do with stress and not taking care of them properly. But today I decided: "Nub nails aren't enough to keep me from blogging!" So here I am!

Last week I picked up the new Essie Silk Watercolors, which are Essie's version of the super pigmented jellies that everyone is doing these days. I didn't want to do complete swatches when my nails are nubs so I decided to play around with them for some art instead. I'm sure you don't mind! ;)

Check under the cut for a better look and a run-down of the polishes I used today!

Swatch // Julep Soft Focus Trio

Swatches of Julep's Soft Focus Trio of Ali, Janet and Lulu

You know, I think I've reached the point where my love of pastels meets at the same level as my love of mattes! And I came to that realisation while swatching this trio of polishes from Julep... As far as I'm concerned they are the be-all and end-all of my perfect polish! Creamy, matte-y, pastel-y goodness! So I'm really excited to finally (I've been sitting on them for a while) share these swatches with you!

All three of these polishes are part of Julep's silk/satin line, which is polishes with a matte or semi-matte finish. They're labeled 'Soft Focus Finish' which is Julep's way of saying they are semi-matte. In my opinion the level of matte is similar to those in Zoya's Naturel Satin Collection.

Let's get right into the swatches!

Throwback Thursday (Vol 8)

I gotta admit, I'm struggling a bit with my mojo, guys. I'm working through some burnout at the moment but I have some fun opportunities coming down the pipeline that will hopefully help to shake me out of it. In the meantime I'm going to share the next post in my Throwback Thursday series - it's a series I truly enjoy working on and sharing with you, no matter how I'm feeling about my broader blogging goals and experiences! :) So let's focus on that positive and get right into it!
