Loose Glitter Gradient Nails with Essence Multidimensional Glitters (Call Me Galaxy)

I'm not a huge loose glitter fan... Loose glitter is messy and tricky and never seems to be worth the payoff (in my opinion). And yet for whatever reason I was drawn to Essence's selection of multidimensional glitters the last time I was at the pharmacy. I ended up picking up a cute mixture called Call Me Galaxy which had a variety of pink, blue and silver pastel glitters in it (of course). I decided to give it a try over Julep Lissa and I think the colours work together really well! It's very mermaid-ish imo.

Swatch-It Sunday: Essie Little Brown Dress

A have a surprise polish to share with you today. Surprise in that I was hella surprised by how much I loved it! What we have here is Essie Little Brown Dress, which I'm sure I originally picked up out of the sale bin with the intention of using for nail art. It was originally from Fall 2010, and it's a gorgeous warm espresso brown. It's rich and creamy and perfect, and it applied flawlessly with two coats.

I am SO. SURPRISED. That I like this polish as much as I do. I recently used it as the base for my Delicate White Roses on a Little Brown Dress mani. I think it's going to be the perfect polish for me to pull out this fall. Can't you just imagine it with some deep jewel tones to accent?

That's it for today, let me know what you think! :)

Thanks for visiting!! xx

My July #HePicksMyPolish Mani - Dotted Gradient Tips!

I've joined a new challenge this month! It's the #HePicksMyPolish Challenge where you have a guy in your life pick out 1-3 polishes for you to use in a nail design. The "he" in this challenge can be any guy you can think of - partner, parent, sibling, friend, random at the store, etc. I teamed up with my dad for this one, and I think what I ended up with is pretty good! Considering he could have chose any of my polishes I think I got off easy. :)

Let's take a better look!

It's been a while, but my Julep Maven box for July is here! This month's box actually got to me within a fairly good span of time (for Canadian shipping)... I think it was here on the 15th. This was one of those months where when I made my selections I went "ehhhhhhhh...." but when I opened my box I went "these are gorgeous!"

I have no excuses for why I've held it from you for so long, so let's get right into it!

Design Glassware by Mont Bleu Nail File Design Competition! Vote for your favourite!

I got a very interesting email a couple of months ago from Design Glassware by Mont Bleu. (As you might remember they sent me a couple of items to review a few months back, and I loved them so much that I've been using their glass files exclusively since then.) The email said that they were planning to run a design competition amongst bloggers to create a new design for their Luxury line of crystal nail files. Life and procrastination (I mean self-care *cough*) meant that I put this off far longer than I meant to, but today I bring you my entries for this competition! And just so you know how much effort went into this - we weren't given templates or anything, so these are entirely mocked up using photoshop and my own two hands!

The most important aspect of this competition is you - you need to vote for your favourite! So check under the cut for the poll, a better look at the designs, and more info about what's involved in this contest (and what happens if we win!).

Delicate White Roses on a Little Brown Dress

Netflix really is the best time to sit and doodle on your nails. These nails were the outcome of exactly that kind of night. I had just applied two coats of my favourite dark brown polish (Essie Little Brown Dress) and then was staring at them going "now what?" Well, I grabbed a few polishes that were within reach and this is the result! Lovely.

Julep Maven August 2014 Selections are Open - The Wanderlust Collection!

* Post contains affiliate links
As pictured on Julep.com

Julep's Collection this month is themed around adventuring, and it's one of those collections that left me in awe at first glance. These are gorgeous colours! Look how rich and pigmented they are... Ahhhh. How am I ever going to choose?!

It's going to be Julep's third birthday as well, so they have a special polish and some special boxes lined up to celebrate. The polish is named Queen Anne and the only way you can get it (for now) is by selecting either the Happy Mani-versary or Beauty Trailblazers boxes.

Let's take a look!

Chevron French Tips Sharp Enough to Kill

The other day I was in one of those moods where I was angry and I wanted people to know. So I grabbed some bold colours that were chilling on top of my desk and freehanded some sharply pointed chevron french tips. Nails are a good way to transmit cues to others non-verbally, right? Turns out the colours I decided on are ones that I already used recently in combo, but why mess with a good thing.

I love love love sending and receiving nail mail, and it's always a treat when I hear from my lovely friend Inés. Embrace Your Geekness: Angry Birds Nails!

Also known as: I have angry bird nail stickers and I don't know when else I will get a chance to use them. The theme for day 2 of the Embrace Your Geekness Nail Art Challenge was video games. An app is kind of like a video game, right? In reality I would've liked to do Final Fantasy nails for this challenge, but because I couldn't think of anything that fit (though I did debate Cactuar nails for a hot second) I went with convenience. I got these in a 99c Born Pretty Store Mystery Lucky Bag and though they've faded a bit since I bought them they went on really easily. :) Check under the cut for more pics and info!

Embrace Your Geekness: Journey to Erebor

Today is the start of a new challenge with Challenge Your Nail Art! Our theme this month is Embrace Your Geekness. I was really excited about this theme but I am also suddenly really busy so to be honest until this morning I was planning on skipping this month. Then I started thinking as I was laying in bed "Well... I was really excited about my Hobbit idea... I could probably get up now and throw it together before work... Couldn't I?" And so here we are! My top fandom at the moment is The Hobbit, and I think this design expresses a wee fraction of my true geekness. Check under the cut for more info about what exactly you're looking at, haha.

I tested these claims and not only was I surprised but I also found my new go-to patch method for nail breaks! Woo! Let's check this out!

Your Lovin' Is Better Than Gold (Nail Polish)

But not really, because let's be honest gold nail polish is one of the best things in the world. But on that note I finally got around to picking up some of the OPI Gwen Stefani polishes! I used two of my favs to get this look: the lovely black satin matte 4 In The Morning and the lovely glittery gold satin Love.Angel.Music.Baby. I was listening to Rich Girl and inspiration hit, what can I say. :)

Duped?!: OPI Push & Shove vs. Sally Hansen Color Foil Sterling Silver

I love comparison posts. :) There's just something about being proven right (or wrong) when it comes to eye-balling similar looking polishes that is so satisfying. Is that a weird thing to say? Haha. Today I'm comparing two polishes that have had their fair share of comparisons in the nail polish community already: OPI Push & Shove and Sally Hansen Sterling Silver! Both are silver chrome polishes, and both came out this year. Are those the only things they have in common? Check out the rest of the post to find out!

I. AM. CANADIAN! (Happy Canada Day!)

You know what my least favourite part of growing up in Canada was? Having to draw friggen maple leaves. Those suckers are HARD. No simple flags with lines and blocks of colour for us, nope. So guess how surprised I was when for the first time in my life I draw a decent maple leaf, and it's for a Canada Day skittlette mani! What are the chances! :) So let's celebrate my artistic ability and Canada Day at the same time!

June 2014 #instanails

Sometimes I post things to instagram that never make it to the blog... Nail art, manicures for friends, pictures of things in-progress... I take the most interesting of these and share them at the beginning of each month over here so that you can see, too! So here's what we have from June 2014.

I bought a lot of nail polish in June, some of which is pictured in the centre right... (And more lovely Spanish nail mail from Inés at the top!) I also did nails for quite a few friends. You can see one mani using the Sally Hansen Color Foils in the bottom right, and you can see the kickass research nails I did for a colleague in the top left. :) Those research nails are totally ones I'm going to have to re-do for myself at some point!

I also got a lovely little note from Nail Polish Canada with a product they sent me for review which honestly made my day. It's the little things, sometimes!

What else do we have, hmm... Using my Julep Party's Over Glitter Removal Kit (which is awesome and has a full post coming later this month), using some on-hand China Glaze to mark off a t-shirt for cutting, and some shots of a few different manis I rocked this month.

If you have questions about what specific shades or items are you can check the originals on instagram or leave me a comment here and I'll let you know. And as always, feel free to leave links to your own instagram account in the comments of this post so I can check it out. :)

Thanks for visiting, and Happy Canada Day to my fellow canucks!! xx
