Canadian Nail Lover Holiday Gift Guide 2014

* Contains affiliate links

I've decided to do something new this year that hopefully can become an annual thing for me. A friend of mine was asking about ideas for nail gifts to give people in her life and I was flattered that she would think to ask me. One thing led to another and I decided to put this guide together!

I called this guide my Canadian Nail Gift Guide not because the products are Canadian but because they are reasonably priced for and available to Canadians. Everything in this list likely works as an awesome gift for people elsewhere too, but I'm making an extra effort to outline availability and shipping to the Great White North. (And as such all prices are listed in $CAD.)

I've included my top 10 (generally mainstream) items and they go in order from lowest price to highest - there's definitely something for everyone no matter your budget. And everything you see in this list I feel comfortable vouching for and own or have tried myself!

So let's get right into it!

Makeup by One Direction Swatch and Review: Liquilights Glow Gloss + Rock Me Nail Kit!

* Products were provided for honest review

Hello hello! Bad news and good news today. The bad news is that my nails are still rounded nubs. The good news is I have some awesome bright polishes from Markwins Beauty through BrandBacker to swatch for you, and I always think brights look best on short nails! So ultimately it's a win! Yay!

I also have some bright and fun lip glosses to share with you - that's a lot of content so let's get right into it!

Hobby Polish Bloggers Fall Favourites November Link-Up!

Another month, another HPB link-up! This month we're focusing on Fall Favourites. I decided to go with my three favourite polishes for fall. Around this time of the year I'm always a sucker for deep bold jewel tones and warm and toasty browns and neutrals. They all just feel comforting and cozy for me! :) A great coat of polish and a warm mug of tea and I'm a happy bunny all day long.

Mini Review: Julep's Black Cat Decals

Periodically Julep will have decals available with their boxes or as special add-ons, and I finally got pulled into giving them a try with my October Julep Maven box. This time they released two different designs: white zig zags or (adorable) black cats. Since at the time Halloween was coming up I decided to go with the cats.  And I have to tell you, I was very pleasantly surprised with what I got!

Recap of the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference [Day 2]

Day 2 has come and gone and I can now proudly say that I attended the 2014 Spark Sessions Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference! You guys - it was so great. I'll admit that waking up at 6am was not a high point for me, but once the day(s) got started and I was connecting with other bloggers and learning from the amazingly well-informed speakers I could forget about the fact I was only working on 4 hours of sleep.

As promised this is part two of my conference recap (you can read part one here) and I have lots of fun things to share with you, like the sessions on PR, media kits, Pinterest, and (my surprise favourite) Google+! Check under the cut for more! :)

Recap of the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference [Day 1]

Today was Day 1 of 2 for the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference, and man am I tired. Evening shift work does NOT go well with waking up at 6am (or leaving the house by 7:30am!). But I did it, and it was worth it. :) Want to know about all the excitement and information (and nail polish!) from today's event? Check under the cut for details!

I'm attending the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference!

As pictured on SparkSessions.ca

I've been looking forward to the upcoming weekend for a couple of months now! Do you know why? Because this weekend is when I'll be attending Spark Sessions' 2nd Annual Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference in Toronto!

So what's this conference all about, you wonder? I'm glad you asked! The Spark Sessions Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference is a two-day interactive event with sessions around topics like social media, legal issues, making a media kit and more! (Spark Sessions is an organization that runs a ton of interesting blogger workshops throughout the year, too. So I think of this as their annual crown jewel!)

In terms of networking and personalities that will be present, this year keynotes are going to be presented by Vanessa Craft from Elle Canada, Andrew Sardone from Globe Style and Cheryl Hickey from Entertainment Tonight Canada and there's also going to be a Sponsor Fair and Speed Networking sessions with Sponsors and PR Reps.

Personally I'm not too big on networking or connecting with PR Reps (it definitely brings out some social anxiety for me) but I'm really looking forward to the educational sessions.

The agenda for the first day includes:
  • Laying Down the Law: Legal Issues Every Blogger Should Know
  • Digital Media: Where to be and How to Measure
  • Attracting and Managing Contributors or Business of Blogging: How to Turn Blogging into a Full Time Job (you get to choose one as both panels are run simultaneously)

And day two is going to cover:
  • It’s About Who You Know: Building Relationships with PR Professionals
  • Time for a Makeover: Important Steps for Rebranding Your Blog or Social Media Untapped: The Importance of Google+ and Pinterest (run simultaneously)
  • The A to Z of Media Kits
  • Ad Networks: What You Need to Know BEFORE You Sign on the Dotted Line or Step It Up – You’re A Blogger, What’s Next? (run simultaneously)

That's a lot of information for two days! Isn't it exciting? :)

Over the next handful of days I'll be coming out with a variety of posts related to the conference - Friday I'm hoping to come out with a post about how I'm preparing for the conference, and then this weekend I'm hoping to provide daily reports on my experiences. This is the first offline blogging-related activity I've participated in so far, so I'm trying to make the most out of it!

I think tickets are sold out by now (though you could still get in touch with the Spark Sessions team to double check!) but if any of you are planning to attend let me know - I'd love to be able to meet you! :)

[You can find out more about Spark Sessions by visiting their website, twitter, instagram or facebook.]

Tutorial // Precision Glitter Placement Technique

Today I have a tutorial showing you one way to place glitter onto nail art with precision (like I did for the heart of this year's Pride Mani). Want to shape out a specific design with something more exact than the sponging method? Don't want to get goopy clear coat all over the place by dabbing the polish on? I have the solution for that! You only need three things, and you'll never believe how simple it is. :)

Check under the cut for a step-by-step tutorial!

My Julep Maven (November 2014) Customized MyMaven Box Unboxing, Swatch and Review!

*Post contains affiliate links

I think this is one of the last fully Julep posts for a while... I'm feeling a bit tired and ready to diversify my posts! But it was a fun run while it lasted, and if you haven't yet be sure to check out my Julep giveaway (closes November 27/14, link in the sidebar!) and enter to win some awesome polishes.

My Julep box for November got here REALLY fast. I think it arrived on the 4th, though it's taken me a few days to pull this post together. I stuck with the polishes this month (no beauty products this time!) and I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with. I even found a new favourite polish! Can you guess which one it is before you read the rest of the post? :)

Julep's Plié Wand - The Better Way to Polish Your Nails! (Offer: Get 2 free polishes with your Plié Wand!)

* Post contains affiliate links

Plie Wand Offer

Julep asked a few thousand polish lovers one simple question: How do you clean-up your DIY manicure when you’re done? “Take a shower afterwards” hovered near the top of the list, with plenty of votes for pre-covering cuticles with Vaseline, chap stick, or Elmer’s Glue. Filing/buffing dry polish off of fingers and cuticles was a big one, too.

There’s GOT to be a better way, right?

There is! The game-changing Julep Plié Wand was developed to make polishing your nails easier, better, and faster, especially with your non-dominant hand.

Plie Wand Offer

Need a refresh on the Plié’s awesomeness?

Here’s the nitty gritty:

What it is:
The Julep Plié Wand is an ergonomic nail polishing tool designed to solve common pain points and give you better results. Imagine if you’d spent your whole life writing with a pen cap and then someone finally handed you a full-size pen. That’s what it feels like to polish with the Plié Wand.

What it does:
  • Long, balanced design improves leverage, comfort, and control
  • Flexible handle bends and pivots 360° for your most comfy grip
  • Plié overcap fits on any Julep nail polish and attaches to the Plié Wand. One Plié is all you need!
  • Precision brush lets you polish closer to your nail
  • Swappable and easy-to-clean brushes mean you can use your Plié with any polish brand

You can also take a look at my reviews of both the Plié Wand and the Plié Wand Creativity Kit. (I honestly can't say enough good things about the creativity kit!)

Allure Magazine called the Plié a “stroke of genius,” and Lucky Magazine says “you’ll never look back!”

The Plié Wand has been quietly taking the polishing world by storm since May. But now it's gearing up to make some noise. There’s no question the Plié is changing DIY manicures for the better. The only question is this: Who’s in?

And as a limited time offer right now you can also get two free polishes with your Plie Wand ($24.99 - a $53 value)! That's an awesome value. :)
