Nail School // Update and Announcement... Will I Ever Be a Nail Tech?!

by - Friday, September 08, 2017

Well hello! So you may or may not remember that over the past few years I've been working my way (*cough*) thorough the online Nail Tech program through The Academy of Nail Design / TAOND. (You can see all my past posts here if you need a refresher!)

How has that been going? Well, not the best if I'm honest. Despite my best efforts at making a plan, staying accountable, and getting it done, I haven't worked on it since July 2016. It is now September 2017. Hahah...

It just so happens that around the time I realized online courses are still not the best method of me, I experienced some trauma in my life which has resulted in me having to go off work to deal with things for a few months. If we just focus on the positive, that means I have a HUGE amount of downtime ahead of me, and for my own mental health that is time that I should spend occupied/distracted. What does all of this come together to mean?

I'M GOING TO GEORGE BROWN COLLEGE TO BECOME A NAIL TECH, YAAAAAAS.

That's right! I'm going to a legit school, with a legit program, and legit classes in person!

That is not to say that TAOND isn't legit - I still think their program is really good, especially if you don't have the time/access to an in-person class, and I get the feeling that TAOND actually covers some topics more in-depth than my in-person classes will (ie. acrylics and forms). So after I'm done the certificate at GBC I actually plan to go back and go through TAOND again to see if I can brush up on any skills.

I went for a tour and discussion of the campus before I enrolled and I really like the feel of the campus, and the people there seem really nice. So fingers crossed it goes well!

I'm going to be doing three courses in the next few months: Manicure, Pedicure, and Business for Estheticians. The nice thing is that if I get cleared to go back to my full time job, I'll still be able to keep up with the classes as they're in the morning and my shift at work is in the evening. :)

What does this mean for ProcrastiNails?

So as you can expect, this is likely going to impact my blogging in both good and bad ways...

The bad will be that I might not have as much time to get posts up 3x a week anymore when things get busy, and the worst-case fear I have is that I will be so tired of dealing with nails in class that I won't want to work on my own art when I get home in the afternoon. But I'm hoping that won't happen!

The GOOD is that you're going to get a whole bunch of fun posts coming your way over those few months... Posts on what I've learned, nail art I did in class, an unboxing of my kit, maybe I can even get some guest posts from classmates! Who knows! All I know is that I feel good about this, the circumstances aligned perfectly, and I'm going to give it my all. :)

I can't wait to start this adventure and to be able to share it all with you. I know I've loved reading posts from other bloggers about their experiences with nail school, and based on the hits and emails I've received about my past Nail School posts I'm sure you guys will love my posts just as much. :)

If there is anything in particular you want to read about or want me to compare when it comes to GBC vs TAOND, please let me know!

Thanks for all your support guys! And thanks for reading! xx
