Swatch // Chirality Polish A Lot of Circles from the April Polish Pickup

If you haven't heard yet, Polish Pickup is a shop where you can nominate and vote on monthly themes and indie makers make polishes based around that theme which you can then pick up in the shop! It's been running for a few months so far and I love it - the way they set it up you can buy as many or as few polishes as you want, and there's $3 flat rate shipping to Canada and the US! Hooray!

I've been able to try out a BUNCH of new indie brands because of this which is awesome. The polish I have to share with you today is from the April Polish Pickup theme of 'Works of Art'. I'm sorry to say I can't remember which painting this was inspired by, but I can tell you it's from a brand that is brand new to me: Chirality Polish!

Review // Unboxing a 99¢ Born Pretty Store Three Item Lucky Bag Secret Gift Pack

So the longer I blog, the more I seem to love receiving mystery boxes or mystery packs. I don't know what it is! There's just something so fun about throwing a bit of my money at someone and getting something that's a total surprise in return. Is it just me??

Today the mystery item(s) we're looking at are the ones I got in a recent Born Pretty Store 99¢ mystery pack. I usually pick up a mystery pack with every order I make at BPS. They sometimes have mystery stamping plate sets, mystery packs (like this), mystery decal sets... All sorts of things! They usually cost between 99¢ and $2 so it's not like they break the bank, either.

The pack I'm sharing here was one of the Three Items Lucky Bag Secret Gift Packs and I've added the link just there in case you decide you want to pick one up for yourself after reading this post. ;)

So let's open it up!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Paper: My First Holo Foil Nails

It is the last day of DD week and to be honest when I sat down to do these nails I had NO idea what I was going to do. Originally I was going to do a newspaper mani (where you apply newsprint to your nails with rubbing alcohol) but I couldn't find any newspaper in my house and it was too late to go out.

So instead my eye caught on the foil nail kit by Finger Paints that I picked up on clearance from Sally's ages ago and went "Foil is a form of paper. Foil nails it is!" I've never used foil paper successfully so I was a bit nervous, but these turned out awesome!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Paper: Baroque Sheet Music Nails

I feel like this week I'm alternative complicated looks with simple looks, which I am totally okay with. Today I have a more simple look for you - just some bold black on white stamping that is supposed to inspire the idea of Baroque-period sheet music. :) That fits for the theme of 'Paper,' right?

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Paper: Pop Art Comic Nails

* Contains Past Press Samples

I am back with my third (and favourite) Digit-al Dozen 'Paper' look! I decided to go with a comic which is definitely one of the things I think about when I think of paper.

Guys... I LOVE THIS LOOK SO MUCH! The bold colours, the implied story across the nails, that red lippie... Pure love. Amazing. Best nails, every other nail can go home. Haha.

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Paper: Stamped Crossword Nails

Sometimes you have an idea in your mind, but when you execute it it just doesn't work out how you pictured... That's how I'd describe today's mani. I was imagining a really rich, gradient background with crisp and bright stamping on top. But I got this instead. Haha. Ah well! They can't all be winners. :)

This is my second fill for this month's DD week with the theme of paper - when I think of paper, crosswords is one of the things that comes to mind! So I decided to use my new Moyra stamping plate from Beautyometry (part of my VIP Bag from Indie Expo Canada) which has a lovely crossword image.

Let's take a look!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Paper: Scribble Paper Nails

You guys I have missed doing nail art so much! Things have been so busy that I just haven't had time, but sitting down to paint my nails and come up with some designs for the Digit-al Dozen theme for this week was so fun and relaxing! I love it.

This month our theme is 'Paper,' and I decided to start with a fairly literal take on it. :)

Shopping Roundup // My Indie Expo Canada 2017 Haul!

Hello lovely readers! I'm trying to get most of my IEC2017 posts up this weekend because next week is a Digit-al Dozen week which means I will be neck-deep in nail art, so today I'm sharing my shopping haul post with you! I haven't had time to swatch any of these beauties but I have some gorgeous bottle shots to share. :)

Take a look and let me know which you would like me to swatch first!

Event Recap // My Time at Indie Expo Canada 2017!

Helloooo and sorry for the radio silence! Indie Expo Canada (aka the focus of this post!) took a lot out of me and there's lots of other things going on in my life on top of that, so my writing got a bit delayed. But never fear, I am back!

Did you attend Indie Expo Canada Toronto 2017? If so, did you come by to say hi?:) If you didn't, that's okay! This post is gonna let you live vicariously through me, hooray! I will also have two or three other posts coming up in the next couple weeks with my shopping haul, a look at the VIP bag, and a look at what I covered in my tutorial table. So keep an eye out for that!

Now, let's go! Pretend it's 11am on a mild Sunday morning and click the 'read more' below!

Today I wanted to share a quick press release from MoYou London featuring new plates from my favourite collection - The Tropical Collection! These plates (of which there are 10, not 8 as their banner claims) have a fun mix of lettering, full nail designs, layering designs and FLAMINGOS! :O

Together we'll be showing you how to create manicures featuring dry marbling, water decals, gradients, smoosh manis, galaxy nails, and freehand! Phew! All of that in half an hour? We'll make it happen!

Swatch // Fair Maiden Polish Duchess for The 30 Days of Colour

I have a slightly late post to share with you today featuring my 4th swatch for the May 30 Days of Colour Challenge! The theme this week was to use your favourite brand, so I decided to do a swatch from my favourite indie brand - Fair Maiden Polish!

Nail Art // Spring Floral Stamping with Emily de Molly and MoYou London

* Contains Press Samples

Spring Floral Stamping with Emily de Molly and MoYou London

Nail art time! This isn't my favourite look but it also isn't my least favourite. I'd rate it like a 3 out of 10? But I'll share it with you anyway, because there's no fun in just showing you looks that I absolutely love... Where's the fun in that!

Today's mani is the result of playing around over a swatch (of Emily de Molly Copper Field, originally swatched here) with some layers of stamping. Check below for a better idea of what I used and how I did it. :)

Review // Nature Love Purifying & Soothing Green Tea Eye Masks

Nature Love Purifying & Soothing Green Tea Eye Masks Review

The other day I was walking around Winners and I was like "I just... I really want some eye masks." Do you ever get that? Where you're shopping or wandering, and you just get it in your head that you need a certain product?

Thankfully Winners seems to have embraced the face mask trend and had a bunch for me to choose from. I decided to pick up two boxes of eye masks from Nature Love - one for soothing and one for tightening. Today I'm going to share the first with you, which are eye masks infused with green tea and cucumber extracts! Sure sounds soothing to me. :) I can pretend I'm at a spa!

OPI All Stars Mini Collection (PT 2)

Today I have the second half of swatches from the OPI All Stars Mini Collection, and this half is the richer shades where the last half was the pinks and nudes. :) If you want to see the first five swatches make sure to check out the first post!

Swatch // Essie Belugaria (aka The Most Hated Polish of All Time?)

I have to admit - one of the reasons I love this polish so much is because so many other people seem to hate it so much! Like, people hate this polish with a passion!

Periodically I'll follow referral links that come up in my stats from the first time I swatched this polish (linked here - warning, it's from 2013!) and find posts and threads where people are all basically saying "OMG LOOK HOW UGLY THIS POLISH IS!"

My favourite comparison so far is that it looks like wet asphalt with glitter stuck in it. Amazing. It is amazing that there is a polish that fits that description perfectly, haha.

So when the theme for this week for The 30 Days of Colour was 'Texture,' you can bet your butt this is the first polish I thought of! Check out more swatches below!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest: Cairns Birdwing Butterfly Inspired Nails

I have my last post for The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest for this week, but unfortunately I'm feeling really under the weather physically and emotionally so I don't have much energy to write out a long post. :( I made up for it with LOTS of pics though!

For this last look I decided to do some butterfly nails inspired by the Cairns Birdwing Butterfly which is a really pretty butterfly with yellow, blue, and mint wings. Very pretty! You can see it here if you want!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest: Freehanded Milk Snake Mani

For my fourth Digit-al Dozen mani this week I decided to do a snake, and ultimately decided on doing a Milk Snake! The colours of the scales really drew my eye and it wasn't until I was done that I realized today's mani uses the exact same colour palette as yesterday's mani! Totally unplanned. :)

Check below for more info and pics of this snek-y snek-y mani!

Wednesday, 17 May 2017

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest: Freehanded Leaf Beetle Mani

Today's mani is supposed to show a variety of Leaf Beetle (specifically the Chrysomelid Beetle [Alurnus Ornatus]) which google tells me lives in Costa Rica. :) The red and yellow shell just grabbed my attention and I knew I wanted to recreate it for this challenge!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest: Rainbow Leopard Mani

Rainbow Leopard Lisa Frank Nail Art

Hello! Welcome back for my second fill for the 'Rainforest' prompt from The Digit-al Dozen! :)

I stuck with my (partially) freehanded animal theme, but I took it in a more creative direction. Today's animal is a leopard but it's more of a Lisa Frank leopard than a realistic leopard haha. And I love that!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest: Freehanded Red Eyed Tree Frog

The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest: Freehanded Red Eyed Tree Frog Nail Art

Hello and welcome to another glorious Digit-al Dozen week! This week our theme is 'Rainforest' which can be used in a bunch of different ways. I have decided to work on my freehand this month by doing a series of freehanded animals. Today we have the Red Eyed Tree Frog!

Review // Rimmel London Shake it Fresh Mascara + Only 1 Matte Lipstick

* Products provided by Influenster complementarily for review

Rimmel London Shake it Fresh Mascara + Only 1 Matte Lipstick

Today I'm taking a look at the products I got in a recent Rimmel London VoxBox from Influenster. I was really pleased to open the box and see that I was sent a matte lipstick and mascara because lipstick and mascara are literally the two things I hate leaving the house without. Perfection!

I wore both of these around all week so I had ample time to gather my thoughts and feelings about them to share with you below. :) Enjoy!

Swatch // Essie Turquoise & Caicos for The 30 Days of Colour

Essie Turquoise and Caicos from the 2010 Resort Collection

Good morning! Happy Monday! :) While I was editing these pictures I was catching up on Riverdale, and oh gosh is that show an amazing mess. I love it but it is so melodramatic haha. Does anyone else watch it??

Anyway, the polish I'm featuring today is also my fill for 'Mint' for The 30 Days of Colour - I chose to go with Essie Turquoise & Caicos.

Press Release // New MoYou London Frenchy Collection Plates

As pictured on MoYou London

If ever there was a MoYou London Collection that I just wasn't feeling, it was the Frenchy Collection (based around designs for french tips). Well, these new releases just totally changed things for me, and now I have at least 4 plates in this collection that I NEED! Damnit!

Swatches // OPI All Stars Mini Collection (PT 1)

OPI All Stars Mini Collection Swatches

Since all of my friends know about my blog and love for nail polish, it's not unusual for them to hand off polish-related gifts they've gotten that they aren't super keen on. Win for me!

One of the more recent things I was given was a mini pack from OPI called the All Stars Minis which is a pack of OPI's 10 best selling polishes in a LE mini collection. I shockingly only owned one of the 10 polishes so it was nice to be able to play around with some older (and new to me) OPI shades.

I've decided to split these swatches into two posts, but don't worry as the other 5 shades are already swatched and ready for posting. I'm planning to have them up early next week so make sure to check back! This half of the collection is the neutrals and pinks. Let's get into them!

Swatch // LynBDesigns Twinkle from The 12 Days of Holo

LynBDesigns Twinkle from The 12 Days of Holo

Today I'm sharing with you another polish I picked up last year in the LynBDesigns 12 Days of Holo box. A while ago I swatched the polish from Day 1 which was a sheer nude with scattered holo named Bauble. Next up we have the polish from Day 2 which is named Twinkle!

Before we get into looking at swatches and info and etc etc about this polish I want to point out the nonsense my camera pulled with the one swatch above. Is it just me or does it look like the polish on the first two vs the last two nails is an ENTIRELY different colour? I promise it isn't! Haha. And none of the other shots turned out like that. But apparently this angle just wanted to be difficult. :)

Swatch // ORLY Va Va Voom for The 30 Days of Colour

ORLY Va Va Voom Hot Pink Swatch

Happy May! The nice weather is here, my balcony is on it's way to being decked out for the season, and I'm in a good mood. The only thing I needed to make this past weekend perfect? NEON NAILS! So it worked out that our theme for The 30 Days of Colour Challenge this week was neon. :)

What's the name of this baby? You'll have to check under the cut to find out! (Or I guess you could just look at the post title... But checking under the cut is more fun!)

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Birthdays: Rainbow Bubbles for My Bday Month!

Rainbow Bubbles Nail Art

Let's get back on track with some art! Today I have a cheery rainbow bubble look for The Digit-al Dozen Does Birthdays for April. The birthday girls this month were myself (hooray!) and Uma, and we decided to choose an inspiration picture for the Digit-al Dozen girls that has a bunch of colourful bubbles floating through the air. It's whimsical and pretty and fit for both of us. :)

Check under the cut for both the inspiration pic and more shots of the mani I did with it!

Unboxing // My March 2017 Topbox

Hello loves! I'm sorry for all the radio silence, I took an unplanned break through some of April as it was both my birthday month and my mom was visiting for a couple of weeks! I'm back now though, and the first thing we're looking at is this unboxing for my March 2017 Topbox. Hooray!

Topbox is a Canadian subscription box that contains four deluxe-sized (and sometimes full-sized!) beauty samples every month for $12 CAD (plus tax, free shipping).

Swatch // LynBDesigns Bauble from The 12 Days of Holo

LynB Designs Bauble from The 12 Days of Holo

Today I have a quick swatch to share with you from one of the (many) Advent Calendars I picked up at the end of last year. This one is from LynBDesigns' 12 Days of Holo Box which featured 12 LE shades that each featured (you guessed it) holo in one form or another.

I keep meaning to swatch the full box to share with you, but for now I have the polish from Day 1: Bauble!

Self-Care Saturday // 10 Ways Relax and Take Care of Yourself with Nail Care and Art

How to use nail art and nail care to relax with self-care

So when I started this blog it was really to feature the nails I was doing as part of my self-care routine. Self-care is basically things that we can do to take care of ourselves, recharge our batteries (emotionally and physically) and nurture ourselves. It can include relaxing things, fun things, and even just doing things you know you need to do to be your best self even if you don't feel like it (like taking a shower, eating, doing laundry, etc.).

In the mental health field we talk a LOT about self-care, but sometimes it feels a bit like just a buzz word. Something we say without really thinking about, and something we don't really reflect on as much as we should.

In the interest of supporting you, my readers, to focus a little bit on self-care (while also working to support myself!) I've started this new little series of things you can do to help take care of yourself. Today I want to focus on little routines or actions you can do to incorporate nails into your self-care, and if you have other ideas or things you do for yourself I'd love to hear about them in the comments!

So grab a cup of tea, click the link below, and choose something you'd like to do just for yourself (and your nails!) later today..

Indie Review + Nail Art // My First Impressions of Kayla Ray Vinyls

My First Impressions of Kayla Ray Vinyls

When I can't figure out what to do on my nails I can always turn to vinyls! Or decals. Or stencils. I feel like everyone calls them different things! I usually call everything that is stuck on a nail like a sticker a vinyl, whether it stays on the nail or is painted over with polish and then peeled off. Is that just me? Am I being the vinyl-equivalent to the person who thinks an ombre and a gradient are the same thing? Enquiring minds want to know!

Anyway, whatever you consider them I have two designs from a new indie brand to share with you! The brand is Kayla Ray Vinyls and today I have both a leave-on decal vinyl and a peel-off stencil vinyl to share with you. :) Check under the cut for more pics and my review of both these products and the brand as a whole!

Press Release // NEW MoYou London Mexico Collection

It's about time we get a new MoYou London Collection and this time they've surprised us with a Mexico-themed line of plates! And I have to be honest - if someone told me to imagine some images that could represent Mexico I would have zero idea what to suggest. It's not a style of art or design I'm too familiar with!

So take a look at the new plates below, and let me know if these scream Mexico to you or if you have different ideas of what they should have (or should in the future!) include. :)

Upcoming Event // I'm Going to Indie Expo Canada 2017 June 3rd + 4th!

I've been super jealous this past year or so watching the fun events happening state-side around indie nail polish, so you can imagine how friggen excited I was when I heard that we were having our very own event here in Canada -  Indie Expo Canada! And I bought a ticket, so I will def be going and telling you all about it!

Who else is excited?!

Indie Review + Swatch // My First Impressions of Emily de Molly

Swatches and brand review of Emily de Molly

Hooray, another new brand for me! This is one I've seen around a lot and have wanted to try for a while - Emily de Molly! Since they're based in Australia I haven't gotten around to ordering from them yet, so when a fellow Canadian blogger was destashing some of her pretties I decided to pick these two up.

Since these are both from a destash I'm not able to comment on some of the things I normally would in these posts (for example: shipping and customer service) but if/when I do order directly from the brand or a stockist in the future I will update the post with that info. For now I'll just focus on my thoughts on the brand/polish in general!

Nail Art // Neon Rainbow Skittle Mani

Neon Rainbow Skittle Mani with the Color Club Poptastic Neons

I'm really proud of myself for keeping up with doing three posts a week! AND that's while working on being productive in my life, too! I'm currently reorganizing a lot of spaces in my apartment as I realized I haven't really bought new furniture or changed anything up in like 4 years so it's all starting to look a bit dated... But a few trips to Ikea, HomeSense and other fun money-spending places has been helping with that!

Anyway, you don't want to hear about my apartment changes I'm sure, so let's focus in on these neon-ly fabulous nails!

Review // Oatmeal Peach Blossom Soap from Finery Soaps & Luxuries

Hello hello lovelies! Today I want to share a product with you that I have been in love with for about a year now. It's the Oatmeal Peach Blossom Soap from Finery Soaps & Luxuries!

So full disclosure, I was introduced to these products because one of my coworkers owns the shop and she gave me my first sample for free. But I fell in love with her soaps and have since re-bought this one for myself and bought a whole bunch of soaps and bath bombs for my mom (and she also fell in love with them). They just smell and work so well that once you try one you can't stop, I swear! So this post isn't sponsored or made with samples, but a sample is how I was introduced to the brand!

Nail Art // Gold Accented Nails with Julep Golden Angle Nail Wraps

Gold Accented Nails with Julep Golden Angle Nail Wraps

These days when I have free time and I'm at home I always toss up in my head "Should I play Sims 4, or should I write blog posts?" And man, it's hard to choose sometimes. My compromise? I often write my blog posts while watching Let's Play videos of Sims 4 on youtube... Haha. Does anyone else still have an unhealthy obsession with the Sims franchise?! The games are just so addictive!

Anyway, from everything I've said so far you would think these nails have something to do with The Sims, but... They don't, at all. Haha. I just wanted to let you know how I felt when I sat down to write this post. :) So let's get into the info and pics about this look!

Swatch // Celebrating the First Day of Spring with my L'Oreal Paris Coachelala Flower Top Coat

L'Oreal Paris Coachelala Flower Top Coat Nail Polish

When I saw that one of the prompts we were doing for The 30 Days of Colour Challenge was 'The First Day of Spring,' I immediately knew which polish I wanted to feature - this fun floral topper from L'Oreal Paris!

Does anyone else remember when toppers with these flower glitter were all the rage with mainstream brands? I think that was a good two or three years ago at this point.. I wasn't a huge fan of them, but I did end up picking up two from L'Oreal Paris when they were on clearance on the end of the season. I got this peachy orange one and another in a light green.

I've never personally used these toppers before, but I did feature one guest post from Sumeet of Tales of Coffee, Lacquer and Beauty and another from Rose of Manicured and Marvelous in March 2015 that feature these types of glitter. So when I say they were 'a thing' I wasn't lying! :)

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art: French Drip Marble

I am calling this a 'French' drip marble for the sole reason that the painting I based it on was one I purchased in Quebec City. Hahaha. It's not a new technique, don't worry! ;)

Today I have the last post for this month's Digit-al Dozen theme of 'Art.' As stated above it's based on a painting I have in my place, and I gotta say it's one of my favourite paintings in the entire apartment. :) I got it when I was in high school and doing an exchange in Quebec and it's traveled along with me on every apartment move since then.

Take a look below for the inspiration pic and a breakdown of aaaaall the polishes!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art: 1950's/60's Style Colour Overlapping

Two posts in one day, who am I?! Haha. I wanted to get up a green-themed post to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, but since it's also a DD week I knew I had to get up a post for our theme of 'Art' as well. I could have combined the two posts into one but what fun is that. ;)

My Top Fives // These Are a Few Of My Favourite (Creme) Greens

My favourite green polishes

HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY! Let's keep with the theme of the day and keep it green!

As you may have guessed, today we are looking at some of my favourite green creme polishes! This is a fun little series I started a while ago (you can see my favourite pink cremes here!) that lets me share some of my most loved polishes with you. They're super fun for me to put together, and I hope you like going through them as much as I enjoy deciding which polishes to feature. :)

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art: Silver Chrome on Chrome Stamping

Silver Chrome on Chrome Stamping Nail Art

Ahhh I'm behind! :( Things got a bit ridiculous this week and since I didn't do all my DD looks ahead of time I'm now officially behind one day. Gotta catch up!

Today I'm sharing my third look with you for The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art, and this time I based my design on some pressed silver coasters I inherited from a great uncle. I just love the raised silver image of roses they have (though unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of them to share with you - I'll have to update the post later with pictures of the coasters)!

To create a similar look I decided to do silver-on-silver stamping, and guess what? All of this was done with just one polish! Check out how I did that below. :)

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art: Vintage Cross Stitch Floral Art

So when my grandma passed a couple years ago I ended up with a bunch of various pieces of art that she had had. My favourite piece is a giant (3 foot ish) ceramic elephant statue that has yet to be transported from my parents' house to mine, but I also got some cross stitch pieces, mounted ceramic tiles, handmade mounted lace... Lots of fun stuff that both looks pretty and reminds me of my grandma.

Today my fill for The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art is inspired by one of the cross stitch pieces, and while it's not my favourite look it was definitely fun to do!

Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art: Chrome Metalwork Tree Nails

The Digit-al Dozen REDOES Art: Chrome Metalwork Tree Nails

This month for the Digit-al Dozen our theme is 'Art'! This is a theme the group already did in the past (before my time) hence the 'REDOES' portion.

I gotta admit I had no idea what to do with these theme, and I also thought we were posting next week not this week... Oops!

Thankfully an idea came to me pretty quickly, and for this week I've decided that I'm going to be focusing on nail art inspired by art around my house. :) Original, right?!

Today I'm focusing on an organic and earthy metalwork tree sculpture that I picked up at a Farmer's Market in my home town last year. Check below for some looks at the art I did and also a look at the original artwork that inspired it!

Swatch // My Indie Polish Last Summer Picnic

My Indie Polish Last Summer Picnic

Holo holo holo! Today we're looking at a holo! :) This gorgeous piece of green is My Indie Polish Last Summer Picnic and it's also my green swatch for The 30 Days of Colour!
