June was the first month we were able to customize our Maven boxes with Julep, so I took the opportunity to swap out my beauty product for an older item I've been wanting to try for a while - Julep's Essential Cuticle Oil. Today I have the results of a 7 day usage test to share with you, as well as some general info about cuticle oil and my thoughts on the product. Overall I'm pretty happy with the product but not so much the method of getting it from in the bottle to onto my cuticles...
The day is already done but I'm going to take some time to share my mani from today (well, yesterday technically) with you anyway. Yay late night posts! This is the look I ended up wearing for World Pride - something simple and clean and to the point. Love is love and you can get out of here if you disagree.
I used one of the most appropriate polishes I own - Sinful Colors Pride! It's a bit hard to see, but there's also some dual-finish stuff going on here... The base is a matte and I used a glossy top coat and some punched-out diy decals to make glossy hearts!

As you might or might not know I'm based out of Toronto, and currently we're hosting the celebrations for World Pride! So exciting. I haven't gotten out to any of the events yet but hopefully that will change this weekend. Tonight I was messing around with figuring out what kind of design I want to wear to Sunday's parade, and after a conversation with a friend I decided to try some flag gradients. Yay gradients!

I have a fun guest post up over at Nail Art Novice today! Here's a quick preview, but you're going to want to go check out the full post at her blog to really see what I put together. :) Jenni does some great nail art, so check out some of her work while you're over there!

Sometimes a polish collection takes me by surprise when it feels like every other blogger out there knew about it months earlier than I did... The Sally Hansen Color Foil polishes were one of those collections. Silence, then BOOM everyone is talking about them, and then suddenly they're completely gone again. The polish world is a strange, strange place sometimes.
The only other chrome I own right now is OPI Push & Shove (and an old school gold Sally Hansen that I've misplaced) so when I saw these at my local pharmacy I decided to grab two of them up - Sterling Silver (so I could compare it to Push & Shove) and Rose Copper. Let's take a better look!

This was the first month that Julep rolled out their fully customized boxes, and I decided to take both of the polishes in the original box (Ariana and Bergen) but swapped out my beauty item. I have to say I'm not super impressed with the additional time it (assumedly) takes to put the customized boxes together, though. As predicted it took longer than usual for the box to get here - it took the full three weeks whereas in the past even though they have estimated three weeks it's only taken one or two. Hmmm.
Shipping aside the polishes are pretty nice this month, so let's focus on the positives instead of getting stuck in the negatives.

Today I have some swatches of one of the shades from the China Glaze City Flourish Collection - In a Lily Bit. When I was going through the folders on my computer and saw the title of this one I had to double check that it wasn't one of the polishes from the Nicole by OPI Modern Family Collection... Damn Modern Family characters are always on the brain now!
In a Lily Bit is a lovely pastel purple-leaning pink creme polish, and it went on without any problems. In these pictures I used three coats but I think you could get away with two if you didn't have time for more than that. Overall this is a lovely addition to my pastel polish problem (P3!) and I'm looking forward to getting some more use out of it in the future! I feel this could be a good polish for stamping... We'll have to test it and see!
Thanks for visiting!! xx
I'm really cutting the deadlines close this challenge! Phew! Haha. Good thing this is the last fill: gardens/butterflies! I originally planned to do a butterfly wing mani since I haven't done one in a couple of years, but time and necessity had me turn that into stamped flowers with my first attempt at a leadlight mani. Let's take a look!

Hello lovelies! Getting this one in pretty close to the wire, but it's done and I'm really happy with it and that's all that matters. :) This is my second fill for the Summer Time Nail Art Challenge. The theme for today was sunsets! I haven't done gradients in a while, and I forgot how fun they are!

It's summer! Let's start a new nail art challenge! Today I bring you the first of a series of fills based on summer themes... Today we have: bright colours! I decided to go with a simple colour blocking design that used some of the chevron nail vinyls I picked up the other month. I had to cut some of them in half to make the third strip up in this look, and though my lines are a bit rough I think it turned out pretty nice. :)

I've seen a few people using the Love & Beauty by Forever 21 polishes on instagram, so when I was out shopping the other day I swung by to pick some up. At $2-$5 they're really reasonable, and they had an amazing selection. Neons, cremes, glitters... And in interesting mixtures, too! I decided to pair the one neon I picked up with a few Essie shades and used my Julep Plié Wand Striping Brush to make a simple Art Deco-inspired design. Love!

Nicole by OPI released their line of textured polishes earlier this year and they decided to name them "roughles." It's a cute pun on "ruffles" but with "rough" incorporated due to the textured nature of the polish. I'm generally a fan of textured polishes, so it when these polishes came out it wasn't so much a matter of if I would get them, but rather when I would get them. So let's take a look at the one I've picked up so far: Sand in my Shoe.

Today was the last day for fills to be submitted for the latest Finger Food's Nail Buffet theme: cocktail nails! Like probably a lot of you I initially thought this meant nails inspired by cocktails... Odd, but not the oddest nail art challenge idea I've been involved with! Imagine my surprise when someone comments on the thread in the group saying that "cocktail nails" are actually an accent nail design where you do more decorative accent nails on your thumb, pointer and middle finger - the fingers you would hold a martini glass with! Huh! I love that it's been a few years now and I'm still learning new things. :)

As you might have seen on instagram the other day I recently picked up The Twenty-Two set from Sephora. It contains 22 mini bottles from Sephora's Formula X line. I've been putting off trying Formula X because it's pretty pricey for a retail brand ($13 if I remember correctly) and because I was annoyed they ended an OPI partnership to make their own line. Anyway, all of that is a story for another post (am I really going to swatch 22 polishes in one go? You bet your buns I am!) so for today I bring you my attempt at using some of the Formula X polishes for stamping!

The Essie 2014 Resort Collection! Find Me An Oasis, Under the Twilight, Resort Fling and Cocktails & Coconuts!
Julep wasn't the only brand to put out a Resort line this year so of course when I was packing for my Cuba trip I had to put the minis from the Essie Resort Collection 2014 in my suitcase, too! I got this lovely set from a good friend for my birthday and decided that while I was away it was time for swatching! But there's one major difference between how I swatched the Julep Resort Collection and how I swatched the Essie Resort Collection, and that is...

I got a bag of Hello Kitty heads in the Born Pretty Store Lucky Bag I picked up last month, and ever since I got them they've been staring at me from my work desk saying "use us! use us!" Well, today was the day! I grabbed a few shades that seemed like they would work together and went to town. :)

What better place to swatch a set of polishes called The Resort Collection than when you're on vacation in a resort in Cuba! :) I picked up this set on a whim a month or so ago - mainly because I had heard noises from other bloggers about how much they loved these shades and how sad they were that there weren't full-sized bottles available. "They can't be that awesome that people would buy both the minis AND full-sized polishes if they were available," I thought to myself. I was wrong. These shades are stunning for summer, and now I'm joining the chorus in begging Julep to put out a set of full-sized bottles!! I need them!!
Check under the cut for more thoughts, as well as a look at the adorable packaging this set came in!

I am back from my wonderfully relaxing vacation, and I have a handful of posts waiting to be put together to share with you... I have not one, but TWO Resort Collections to share with you that I swatched while on my trip (can you guess the brands?) and I also have this lovely post filled with the manicures I did for my wonderful travel companion Nadine while we were out enjoying the sun and ocean and cocktails! As you can see her nails are wee nubbins that I love, so it took me a while to get the nail care/polishing routine down for nails of this size. But practice makes perfect, right? :) Let's take a closer look!

Last month saw a lot of nail-related deliveries! I got a bunch of goodies I ordered from Julep (top) and Born Pretty Store (bottom left), and I also got some lovely items to review from Influenster/Broadway Nails and Mont Bleu Design Glassware (top right). In the center picture you can also see another excitement from this month - trying out my Julep Plié Wand for the first time!
Unfortunately May was not a good month for nail art... As you can see none of it even made it to instagram. :/ Oh well. Can't knock it out of the park every month, right?
If you have questions about what specific shades or items are you can check the originals on instagram or leave me a comment here and I'll let you know.
As always, feel free to leave links to your own instagram account in the comments of this post so I can check it out. :) And don't forget to check out the giveaway I have going right now for a bunch of shades from the Revlon Parfumerie Spring 2014 Collection!
Thanks for visiting!! xx
