Polish Comparison: Julep Nancy and Julep Celia

* Post contains affiliate links

Did everyone have a good Christmas, those who celebrate? :) I'm sure mine was lovely (though I can't speak to that now since I'm scheduling this post ahead of time before I leave to visit my parents and I haven't actually celebrated yet) and I'm sure any polish-related things I got you will hear about soon!

Today I'm doing a quick comparison between two metallic green Julep polishes. The funny thing about Julep is that when they release their monthly previews I look at the offerings and often say to myself: "But that looks just like x from last year! I don't need another polish that looks like that..." But surprise surprise when they actually arrive at my doorstep I often find that the polishes aren't actually that similar. (Whether that's due to mis-remembering the shade on my end or questionable official swatching on the part of Julep.) Julep Nancy and Julep Celia were two such polishes, and just for fun I decided to pull them together to compare.

So let's take a look!

Glitter and Stars Holiday Mani with China Glaze and Maybelline New York

Holiday nail art with stamped stars, glitter and studs using China Glaze and Maybelline New York nail polish and Cheeky plate CH52

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas if you celebrate! I know there probably aren't many people around on blogs today but I decided to share a festive look with you anyway. :) I'm wearing a more basic version of this look (no stamping or studs) on my nails to visit my hometown for the holidays but I decided to do a more jazzed up version to share with you because this is a nail blog afterall! We can't have boring!

2014 Ciaté Mini Mani Manor Advent Calendar Swatches! [December 7 to 12]

Collage of the Ciate polishes in week 2 of the Mini Mani Manor Advent Calendar

This post is a bit delayed but it's here now and that's all that matters, right? :) Today I bring you week two of my swatches for my Ciaté Mini Mani Manor Advent Calendar!

I'm revealing/swatching these daily over on instagram but I'm planning to do weekly swatch and review round-ups over here, too. So if you aren't following me over there (which you really should be - fun times over on instagram!) you don't have to miss out on all the fun.

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Glitter Ornaments

My glitter fill is here! I knew I wanted to do something with hex glitter and after browsing instagram for a bit I decided to do a more Christmas-y recreation of a look by Laura Merino. It doesn't look nearly as lovely as hers but I still really like it - it's different!

I also posted an upside-down pic of this on instagram and was told they looked like flowers! Oops. Haha. They would be pretty sad looking flowers in my opinion, but hopefully they look better right-side-up as dangling ornaments. :)

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Christmas Ornament Stamping

*Some items in this post were gifted to me

You know what word starts to look weird when you say it/type it/look at it too much? Ornament. Trying saying it five times and then tell me it doesn't feel weird to say! Orrrnamentttt.

Anyway! The reason I'm talking about ornaments is because today's fill for The 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge is for Christmas decorations, and I decided to do some stamping with an awesome new plate I was gifted by NailPolishCanada.com for the holidays!

Let's take a better look...

My Julep Maven (December 2014) Customized Box Unboxing, Swatch and Review!

Unboxing of my Julep December 2014 Beauty Box with two polishes and an eyeshadow.

Hooo-ey! This box was a roller coaster from start to finish! Unexpected highs and unexpected lows from the products I picked up, but that's part of the fun of subscription boxes right? :) The overall polish collection wasn't really speaking to me so I once again went with the featured beauty item and also picked up a new effect top coat. Add a punch of glitter to my selections (because New Years is coming up after all) and we're good to go!

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Festive Red and Green Colour Blocking

Colour blocking nail art using red and green Zoya over a glitter gradient base.

And I'm caught up! This is my fill for the red and green theme for The 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge. I decided to do some colour blocking with tape and nail vinyls over a simple glitter gradient, and while it's not my best or most exciting design I still like it. :)

Check under the cut for more details!

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Five Golden Rings

What's a 12 Days of Christmas Challenge without a theme related to the song itself? :) The prompt was to use any line from the song and I decided to go with five golden rings symbolized by five stripes of gold across my nails. Love it!

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Icy Blue Watermarble

How busy can I make a watermarble to hide the bubbles? Hella! Haha.

I'm slowly catching up on my 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge fills, and today I'm bringing you the art that was originally supposed to be done and up for December 9th - Ice Blue and White Colours. I decided to do a watermarble over my natural nails so there could be some peek-a-boo sections and as I mentioned above I decided to fill any irritating water bubbles that showed up (and there were a fair bit - oops!) with glitter and snowflakes. :)

Let's take a better look!

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Santa Stamping

Skittlette nail art with a stamped Santa and textured polish

I'm a few days behind on my 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge looks but that's okay. :) Today I have my fill for the theme of Santa and/or elves, and I decided to go with a jolly little Santa with some snow and holly!

Swatches // 2014 Ciaté Mini Mani Manor Advent Calendar - December 1 to 6

Ciate Mini Mani Manor Advent Calendar Swatches

Hello hello! Exciting post to share with you today. This year I decided to pick up the Ciaté Mini Mani Advent Calendar - an advent calendar that has a mini nail polish (or nail art item) for each day until Christmas! Eeee! I saw a few people going through these last year and remember wishing I had one (but not willing to shell out for the price tag). So this year I decided to take the plunge and I am SO HAPPY I did! I've never used Ciaté polishes before and while they do all seem to need a full 3 coats to get rid of streaks I've been really pleasantly surprised by them. :) This year the advent calendar came in a really cute house-shaped box that reminds me of a doll house!

I'm revealing/swatching these daily over on instagram but I'm planning to do weekly swatch and review round-ups over here, too. So if you aren't following me over there (which you really should be - fun times over on instagram!) you don't have to miss out on all the fun.

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Peek-A-Boo Snowmen

A day late with this one but that's because it honestly fought me every step of the way. I had an unexpectedly busy/stressful weekend so my creative mojo just wasn't flowing. A bit of doodling and eventually this is what I ended up with. Little winter snowmen peeking over from the tips of my nails!

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Christmas Trees

It's the second day of fills for 2014's The 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge! The theme for the second fill was one you would expect to see in any seasonal challenge: Christmas trees! Who loves Christmas trees? I love Christmas trees! (Even though I've decided I'm not putting one up this year, boo. I guess the ones on my nails will just have to do!)

Check under the cut for more details!

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art: Frozen Snowflake Flurries

Frozen nail art with a gradient and snowflakes using Zoya

December brings with it a bunch of exciting things! The first is that I get to start opening my Ciaté Mini Mani Manor Advent Calendar, and the second is that the 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge kicks off! I haven't decided how to share the first item with you, but for the second you get to look forward to new nail art every other day until Christmas! Hooray! I'm really excited about some of the fills I have prepared/planned for this challenge.

The theme for December 1st is Snowflakes. (Those of you who follow me on instagram got a preview of this one the other day!) Let's take a better look at the gorgeous flurry of snowflakes that I created on my nails for this one. :)

Today I have swatches of one of my favourite polishes to show you - OPI Planks a Lot! This is one of the shades from the 2011 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Collection. One of my favourite OPI polishes from one of my favourite OPI Collections (from a not-so-good movie but oh well can't win them all)!

Canadian Nail Lover Holiday Gift Guide 2014

* Contains affiliate links

I've decided to do something new this year that hopefully can become an annual thing for me. A friend of mine was asking about ideas for nail gifts to give people in her life and I was flattered that she would think to ask me. One thing led to another and I decided to put this guide together!

I called this guide my Canadian Nail Gift Guide not because the products are Canadian but because they are reasonably priced for and available to Canadians. Everything in this list likely works as an awesome gift for people elsewhere too, but I'm making an extra effort to outline availability and shipping to the Great White North. (And as such all prices are listed in $CAD.)

I've included my top 10 (generally mainstream) items and they go in order from lowest price to highest - there's definitely something for everyone no matter your budget. And everything you see in this list I feel comfortable vouching for and own or have tried myself!

So let's get right into it!

Makeup by One Direction Swatch and Review: Liquilights Glow Gloss + Rock Me Nail Kit!

* Products were provided for honest review

Hello hello! Bad news and good news today. The bad news is that my nails are still rounded nubs. The good news is I have some awesome bright polishes from Markwins Beauty through BrandBacker to swatch for you, and I always think brights look best on short nails! So ultimately it's a win! Yay!

I also have some bright and fun lip glosses to share with you - that's a lot of content so let's get right into it!

Hobby Polish Bloggers Fall Favourites November Link-Up!

Another month, another HPB link-up! This month we're focusing on Fall Favourites. I decided to go with my three favourite polishes for fall. Around this time of the year I'm always a sucker for deep bold jewel tones and warm and toasty browns and neutrals. They all just feel comforting and cozy for me! :) A great coat of polish and a warm mug of tea and I'm a happy bunny all day long.

Periodically Julep will have decals available with their boxes or as special add-ons, and I finally got pulled into giving them a try with my October Julep Maven box. Since at the time Halloween was coming up I decided to go with the cats.  And I have to tell you, I was very pleasantly surprised with what I got!

Recap of the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference [Day 2]

Day 2 has come and gone and I can now proudly say that I attended the 2014 Spark Sessions Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference! You guys - it was so great. I'll admit that waking up at 6am was not a high point for me, but once the day(s) got started and I was connecting with other bloggers and learning from the amazingly well-informed speakers I could forget about the fact I was only working on 4 hours of sleep.

As promised this is part two of my conference recap (you can read part one here) and I have lots of fun things to share with you, like the sessions on PR, media kits, Pinterest, and (my surprise favourite) Google+! Check under the cut for more! :)

Recap of the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference [Day 1]

Today was Day 1 of 2 for the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference, and man am I tired. Evening shift work does NOT go well with waking up at 6am (or leaving the house by 7:30am!). But I did it, and it was worth it. :) Want to know about all the excitement and information (and nail polish!) from today's event? Check under the cut for details!

I'm attending the Spark Sessions 2014 Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference!

As pictured on SparkSessions.ca

I've been looking forward to the upcoming weekend for a couple of months now! Do you know why? Because this weekend is when I'll be attending Spark Sessions' 2nd Annual Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference in Toronto!

So what's this conference all about, you wonder? I'm glad you asked! The Spark Sessions Fashion & Beauty Blogger Conference is a two-day interactive event with sessions around topics like social media, legal issues, making a media kit and more! (Spark Sessions is an organization that runs a ton of interesting blogger workshops throughout the year, too. So I think of this as their annual crown jewel!)

In terms of networking and personalities that will be present, this year keynotes are going to be presented by Vanessa Craft from Elle Canada, Andrew Sardone from Globe Style and Cheryl Hickey from Entertainment Tonight Canada and there's also going to be a Sponsor Fair and Speed Networking sessions with Sponsors and PR Reps.

Personally I'm not too big on networking or connecting with PR Reps (it definitely brings out some social anxiety for me) but I'm really looking forward to the educational sessions.

The agenda for the first day includes:
  • Laying Down the Law: Legal Issues Every Blogger Should Know
  • Digital Media: Where to be and How to Measure
  • Attracting and Managing Contributors or Business of Blogging: How to Turn Blogging into a Full Time Job (you get to choose one as both panels are run simultaneously)

And day two is going to cover:
  • It’s About Who You Know: Building Relationships with PR Professionals
  • Time for a Makeover: Important Steps for Rebranding Your Blog or Social Media Untapped: The Importance of Google+ and Pinterest (run simultaneously)
  • The A to Z of Media Kits
  • Ad Networks: What You Need to Know BEFORE You Sign on the Dotted Line or Step It Up – You’re A Blogger, What’s Next? (run simultaneously)

That's a lot of information for two days! Isn't it exciting? :)

Over the next handful of days I'll be coming out with a variety of posts related to the conference - Friday I'm hoping to come out with a post about how I'm preparing for the conference, and then this weekend I'm hoping to provide daily reports on my experiences. This is the first offline blogging-related activity I've participated in so far, so I'm trying to make the most out of it!

I think tickets are sold out by now (though you could still get in touch with the Spark Sessions team to double check!) but if any of you are planning to attend let me know - I'd love to be able to meet you! :)

[You can find out more about Spark Sessions by visiting their website, twitter, instagram or facebook.]

Tutorial // Precision Glitter Placement Technique

Today I have a tutorial showing you one way to place glitter onto nail art with precision (like I did for the heart of this year's Pride Mani). Want to shape out a specific design with something more exact than the sponging method? Don't want to get goopy clear coat all over the place by dabbing the polish on? I have the solution for that! You only need three things, and you'll never believe how simple it is. :)

Check under the cut for a step-by-step tutorial!

My Julep Maven (November 2014) Customized MyMaven Box Unboxing, Swatch and Review!

*Post contains affiliate links

I think this is one of the last fully Julep posts for a while... I'm feeling a bit tired and ready to diversify my posts! But it was a fun run while it lasted, and if you haven't yet be sure to check out my Julep giveaway (closes November 27/14, link in the sidebar!) and enter to win some awesome polishes.

My Julep box for November got here REALLY fast. I think it arrived on the 4th, though it's taken me a few days to pull this post together. I stuck with the polishes this month (no beauty products this time!) and I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with. I even found a new favourite polish! Can you guess which one it is before you read the rest of the post? :)

Hello lovelies! As promised it's a Julep-ful week here on ProcrastiNails, and to break up our swatches and reviews I have a giveaway for all of you! As you all know I order a LOT of Julep polishes and as such over time I've collected a bundle of duplicates. Here's a rundown of the colours you can look forward to owning if you win (with links to my original swatches):
Julep Blakely: A purple/green/copper/blue multichrome.

Julep Beatrix: A coal black and gold multidimensional glitter.

Julep's Plié Wand - The Better Way to Polish Your Nails! (Offer: Get 2 free polishes with your Plié Wand!)

* Post contains affiliate links

Plie Wand Offer

Julep asked a few thousand polish lovers one simple question: How do you clean-up your DIY manicure when you’re done? “Take a shower afterwards” hovered near the top of the list, with plenty of votes for pre-covering cuticles with Vaseline, chap stick, or Elmer’s Glue. Filing/buffing dry polish off of fingers and cuticles was a big one, too.

There’s GOT to be a better way, right?

There is! The game-changing Julep Plié Wand was developed to make polishing your nails easier, better, and faster, especially with your non-dominant hand.

Plie Wand Offer

Need a refresh on the Plié’s awesomeness?

Here’s the nitty gritty:

What it is:
The Julep Plié Wand is an ergonomic nail polishing tool designed to solve common pain points and give you better results. Imagine if you’d spent your whole life writing with a pen cap and then someone finally handed you a full-size pen. That’s what it feels like to polish with the Plié Wand.

What it does:
  • Long, balanced design improves leverage, comfort, and control
  • Flexible handle bends and pivots 360° for your most comfy grip
  • Plié overcap fits on any Julep nail polish and attaches to the Plié Wand. One Plié is all you need!
  • Precision brush lets you polish closer to your nail
  • Swappable and easy-to-clean brushes mean you can use your Plié with any polish brand

You can also take a look at my reviews of both the Plié Wand and the Plié Wand Creativity Kit. (I honestly can't say enough good things about the creativity kit!)

Allure Magazine called the Plié a “stroke of genius,” and Lucky Magazine says “you’ll never look back!”

The Plié Wand has been quietly taking the polishing world by storm since May. But now it's gearing up to make some noise. There’s no question the Plié is changing DIY manicures for the better. The only question is this: Who’s in?

And as a limited time offer right now you can also get two free polishes with your Plie Wand ($24.99 - a $53 value)! That's an awesome value. :)

Candy Corn in the Halloween Void!

I'm having a fun time naming my Halloween nail art looks, can you tell? Haha.

What's a Halloween theme without some candy corn! I actually wore the base of these nails (the gradient on it's own) to a pumpkin carving party earlier in the week and it was a huge hit. I'm always surprised by how much people outside of the blogging community love nail gradients. I mean, it's great for me since when I do their nails gradients are so easy to do, but I always go in expecting them to prefer fancy free-hand work. Shows what I know. :) Anyway, enough about that. Let's get into the nails!

Julep Maven November 2014 Selections are Open - The Friendsgiving Collection

*Post contains affiliate links

As pictured on Julep

Another month, another Julep collection. For November 2014 Julep brings us The Friendsgiving Collection which has a variety of chill fall colours to help us transition into the season. They've also given us a sneak peek and early access to some of the Holiday 2014 sets! (With more set to be released in this month's Secret Store - come on full Birthstone Collection!)

I still haven't gotten my Julep box for October (they recently changed shipping and a lot of people are in the same spot) so my excitement has been tempered a bit by that... But anyway, the products still look lovely so let's get right into it. :)

Swatch-It Sunday: China Glaze Ruby Pumps

China Glaze Ruby Pumps is one of those polishes that everyone knows and loves. It's definitely a collection staple, though I didn't know anything about it's history until I did a bit of research for this post! This polish is part of the Wizard Of Ooh Ahz Collection and if you want to hear more about the release (re-discovery, re-creation, re-release) of this collection I'd encourage you to check out the post over on All Lacquered Up.

Ruby Pumps polish is a bold red jelly packed with red glitter. Because it's a jelly it does take time to build up which is a problem for some people. I know my mom was disappointed when she saw how many coats she had to use (this is the only polish she owns!). I get around that by using a coat of red undies first and then layering two coats of Ruby Pumps on top.

Like all China Glaze polishes it applies really well, though I would suggest using a layer of top coat when you're done to smooth all the glitter down (which I didn't do here).

I think this is a great polish to pull in for Halloween looks to give the impression of dripping, glittering blood (which I've already used it once for this holiday season), but it's also a great bold colour to wear year around. Definitely one to grab if you don't have it already. :)

Thanks for visiting!
