Julep Crackle Craze: Hermione, Ursula, Sabrina and Glenda Swatches + Review

There have been some gorgeous designs going around recently that incorporate crackle polishes along with nail art. I thought that the crackle trend had died down last year, but it seems to me like it had a mini-resurgence in the past few months (on the blogs I follow, at least)! It's gone away again now, but I was left inspired. And just as I was formulating designs... I learned that my OPI Black Shatter had dried up. :( Nooo.

Thankfully I remembered that I had seen a crackle set on Julep a couple months prior, and once I checked it out and saw that I could get all 4 crackle polishes that Julep had released the previous year for $16.99 (regular $56) I knew I was going to snatch them up before they were discontinued. I'd get my precious black, and then some! Even though I haven't done any nail art with these lovelies yet, I thought I'd share the swatches with you so you could see if you also want to snatch them up before they're discontinued. Enjoy!

Tutorial // Matte Cartoon Mani [pic heavy]

I feel like I haven't been posting as often, so to make it up to you I'm going to share a bunch of fun new things over the coming weeks (namely tutorials and a giveaway)! The cartoon mani I did in August was one of my most popular looks, and as promised I've put together a tutorial on how to do this nail art yourself. :) This time I used turquoise as my base shade and mattified the whole thing. This is my first full tutorial, and I tried to make it as simple-yet-comprehensive as I could. Let me know what you think!

Swatch-It Sunday: Revlon's Indie-esque Polishes - Whimsical and Girly!

So I've been eyeing these two polishes up for a while but I hate hate hate paying drug store prices because things are so marked up. But last week luck was with me because not only were Revlon polishes on sale, but they had both Whimsical (the blue glitter jelly) and Girly (the pink glitter jelly) in stock! So finally these two lovelies are mine!

(Also, I'm introducing a new feature with my glitter swatches starting today .... macros! \o/)

Welcome to Night Nails!

Get it?! HA. So these were my first attempt at Welcome to Night Vale nails. They aren't terrible, though I wish I had used a finer brush to do the details with. Oh well, live and learn! For those of you that don't know what Welcome to Night Vale is, it is an amazing/inventive/creepy/hilarious/charming/eerie podcast in the style of a radio drama that you can listen to for free over here. Here's the official description:
Twice-monthly community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff's Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events. Turn on your radio and hide. Welcome to Night Vale.

DIY Textured Chevron Decals in a Skittlette Mani!

My first attempt at making my own nail decals was a success! I was actually working on a tutorial for how to make these decals with different types of polish (cremes, textured, glitter) but ran into a bump, so you get the mani now and the tutorial later. More trial and error on my part means less on yours, right?? :)

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Flowery China Glaze Rainbow Colour Blocking

A short post today! Basically I'm trying to get both of my current challenges (my own 2013 Challenge and the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge) done before the end of the year, so I've started going through the remaining challenges and planning out some designs. For Day 10 of the 31 Day Challenge I had to do rainbow nails, and I decided to do them differently than how I've seen other fills done in the past. Basically the only thing rainbow about this is that I used a full rainbow-spectrum of colours, rather that doing your common linear rainbow gradient/design. :)

My Julep Maven (Sept 2013) Classic With a Twist Box Arrived! Padma and Florence (+ Daria Add-On) Swatches and Review [pic heavy]

It's been a whole week since I last posted! Oh my gosh! /o\ Where has the time gone...?! To celebrate my mini-return I bring you: the Julep Classic With a Twist Box for September! Yaaaay!

This month we have The Cityscape Collection. None of the colours in the other sets really spoke to me (and I had dupes for most of them anyway) so I decided to go for something other than the It Girl box this month. The box I decided on contained Padma (the deep purple) and Florence (the nude) and a bottle of Bare Face Cleansing Oil, and I decided to get Daria (the slate grey) as an add-on. What can I say? For me fall is a season for more muted colours, and these were the ones that spoke to me. (And to be honest, this is actually my favourite box to-date... Love all of these!)
