Nail Art // Encore of My Pink and Blue Ikat Manicure

Ikat nail art featuring Julep Yumi and Essie Point of Blue

I've been wanting to start doing posts like this for a while now - taking a look from previous years and updating it with new polishes, new camera, and my new lighting. :)

I didn't know what to call this type of post so shout-out to Lisa who suggested calling it an "encore!" mani when I asked in a group. I was just going to call it a recreation, but I like that idea so much more!

This look also works as my fill for Day 7: Blue for the 30 Days of Colour Challenge.

Enough talking, let's get to the nails!

The nails I did today are an encore of my first attempt at an ikat manicure. Here are the original nails from August 2013 for comparison:

The technique is pretty good, but the lighting and watermark are a bit distracting imo. My cuticles are on point though! When I did this look the first time I used OPI polishes and did my black and white detailing with nail art stripers.

And here's a look at what my recreation looks like, using polishes from Julep and Essie...

Don't you love them?! You can definitely see the difference between my pictures now and then, though I have to say the actual ikat technique isn't that different between then and now - I did a pretty good job in 2013!

My base polish is Julep Yumi and Essie Point of Blue adds some colour to my ikat design, with the black and white accents added with acrylic paint.

I love doing ikat designs - they always look complicated before you start but once you get going they're so simple! I do my white first, then layer my inside colour, and then do the black bits at the very end.

It was so fun to be able to recreate a previous look, I definitely want to make encore manis more of an active thing that I do! If there are any looks I've done before that you want to see recreated let me know and I'll add them to the list. :)
