31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Metallic Fan Brush Mani with China Glaze Magnetix

by - Friday, June 14, 2013

So I'm trying to make a dent in the two challenges I'm working on: the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge and my own 2013 Nail Art Challenge. After going back and forth between the next fill for each of those, I decided to do the metallic fill for the 31 Day Challenge first. .... But I severely miscalculated the amount of metallic polishes I own. By that I mean, aside from Maybelline's Bold Gold (which I use all the freaking time) there are very few. My solution? Use some of my magnetic polishes! They look metallic, and no one ever said that I have to do a magnetic design just because it's magnetic polish, right? Right! Add a technique I've wanted to try for a while (using a fan brush) and voila! My mani is complete.

I love how this combo/technique worked out together. :) It reminds me of sugar and cotton candy, and the magnetic polishes went on like a dream with the fan brush. It's a double bonus because I hate magnetic polishes (my nails are too curved for the designs to cover evenly) and now I know how well they work for other purposes. It's breathed new life into them, for me!

This is what I ended up using for this fill (L to R): China Glaze's Life is Rosy (which I swatched earlier in the week) as my base colour, with China Glaze Magnetix Attraction and Positively in Love applied with a fan brush.

Love this look! Pretty pleased for my first attempt at a fan brush mani. :)

  2. You're not alone in using those polishes for non-magnetic purposes! That effect looks gorgeous! I've never tried fan brushes before, are they difficult to use?

    1. I was surprised, the brush was SUPER easy to use! Though I'll admit I did watch a few youtube tutorials before trying it. :) Def something I'll be doing again.

  3. This is really cute! The magnetic polishes are always on clearance, but I don't buy them because I'm awful at making the designs ... I may have to get some so I can try this!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I think I got both of these for 99c at my beauty store after the magnetic phase ended... But they're gorgeous colours on their own!
