Swatch and Review // Claire's Leopard Print Glitter Top Coat

Claire's leopard print glitter nail polish top coat swatched over grey

Hey lovelies! Remember when all the indie brands were releasing their leopard glitter toppers? I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved the look of them - especially KBShimmer's Spot Sign. Ahhh. But alas I don't really do indie polishes so I just thought about these glitter toppers... A LOT. So imagine my delight when I was at Clarie's and saw they have their very own leopard glitter top coat. Oh my gosh you guys! I was shopping with a friend and I'm pretty sure I talked her ear off over how excited I was. :)

So this is the polish I'm choosing to share with you today, as I work back into the groove of blogging after coming out of an (unplanned) hiatus. Did my dream polish hold up to my expectations once I applied it? Read below to find out!

Doesn't this topper look so nice, with it's mixture of black leopard glitter and iridescent glitter shards? It looks lovely but this was an ACTUAL nightmare to apply. What you see took me one failed round of painting it on over my grey base, followed by two layers of sponged on glitter shards (damn that clear base is thick), and then a huge fishing expedition to find the leopard spots. :/ It then took TWO coats of top coat to even start to smooth it down.

This is where I say the polish looked like a dream but applied like an actual nightmare. Ugh. I was rooting for you, Claire's!

I still really like how this polish looks and looking at it now I'm even thinking "I'm sure it wasn't that bad to apply...." But no. I know I'm just fooling myself. This is one to keep in my collection just to be content with the fact I finally own a leopard glitter, but I don't think I'll be pulling it out much. For the few bucks it cost me though I don't really mind.

I haven't tried Claire's polishes before but I did pick up a few more so we'll see if the issue is with all their polishes or just this one.

Have you tried polish from Claire's before? Was it as much of a nightmare to apply as this one? Let me know!

Thanks for visiting! xx

  1. I tried one claire's polish and it was glorious...I tried another and it nearly put me off polish all together. I think it really depends on the shade.

  2. I only have two Claire polishes. One is teal with purple shifting silver and one is a mood changing polish from blue to turquoise and they're both dreamy. I know that base that your speaking of and many iridescent glitters have that base, and it is a nightmare. I have a question for you though... why don't you do indie polishes?

  3. It looks so cool, but it does look a bit chunky, unfortunately! Too bad, because I like the mix of glitters/shards.

  4. i feel like a lot of those chunky and big glitters make application a nightmare for sure! and by the time I get it smooth with 2-3 coats of top coat the polish just pretty much peels off within a couple hours lol... bummer that you were so let down :(

  7. I never really liked the leopard glitter topcoats.. the leopard spots are too uniform for me and I think they'd stick out on my nails as well. Bummer you weren't more pleased by the formula!

  8. No Claire's polishes for me. I've heard too many terrible things about them

  9. I've heard awful things about their polish, haven't personally tried them

  10. This LOOKS difficult to apply. It might end up easier to just paint a leopard print!

  11. I haven't tried any of Claire's polishes, but most of what I've heard about them put me off completely.

  12. Too bad it is so awful in its application... It is awesome in its concept though!

  13. I definitely stay far away from any Claire polishes. They always look like they would have a difficult application. Plus I am too invested in the indie world haha.
