ProcrastiNails: Guest Post from Darling Magpie // Budget Beauty!

Hi everyone! I’m hijacking Procrastinails today for a guest post!

Before I start, I’m Danielle and you can find me over at Darling Magpie, where I blog about everything beauty, and occasionally, everything related to tea. But here at Procrastinails today, my theme is ‘Budget Beauty’ because the post-holiday crunch is still upon us, so we might as well find our cheap kicks where we can!

So, as I’m currently doing a huge inventory on my blog of all my lip products, I thought it would be fun to highlight my Top 5 Lipsticks under $10! All of these products are easily found at Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, or Rexall, as well as various other retailers!

1. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Prague

NYX, NYX, NYX! This company’s name has been on the lips of every Canadian beauty lover this winter with the launch of their Canadian website, their standalone stores in Toronto and their recent arrival into Shoppers Drug Mart! To celebrate, I picked up Prague because I love a good berry, and people were comparing it to MAC Rebel! Formula wise, these lippies settle quickly, last for HOURS, they don’t bleed, and will eventually fade onto the lip, leaving a nice stain.

Cost? $9.

2. Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs in Stormy Sahara

To be honest, I wasn’t interested in The Buffs collection at first, as I’ve had some misses with nude lip colours before. But I was blown away by this shade! Stormy Sahara is a ‘my lips but better’ shade that works for people with pink/peach undertones AND yellow undertones. It’s a bit of a holy grail for a drug store lippie! Also, instead of being overly matte, this is a very creamy, moisturizing formula. It will need reapplication throughout the day, but it faces subtly so you’ll never have leftover product sitting around.

Cost? $8-10.

3. NYC Expert Last Satin Matte in Creamy Mauve
I never explored NYC products until everybody started freaking out over their Satin Matte collection last year. So I ran over to my local Shoppers Drug Mart and scoured the rack in vain looking for this shade. Overally I was pretty impressed at the quality one could get for the mere price of a cup of coffee. Creamy Mauve is pale enough to be soft and delicate, but it doesn’t wash me out. It has a nice consistency and while it does dry matte and has a temdency to emphasize your lip lines, another reapplication can smooth that down nicely.

Cost? $2-3.

4. Maybelline Baby Lips in Dr. Rescue
WAIT, you’re probably saying. Isn’s this a glorified lip balm? Not really a lipstick? And to that I’ll say YES, but I will also say, it WORKS. In the winter my skin and lips really suffer due to the constantly shifting weather patterns. Sometimes it’s dry, sometimes it’s humid, and my lips get really damaged in the process. What I LOVE about Dr. Rescue is that it acts as a slightly medicated lip balm, but still with that extra wash of colour for those days you’re feeling blah.

Cost? $3-5.

5. L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinare in all of the shades!

I feel like I’m SQUEAKING this one in here, since this product retails for just SLIGHTLY over $10, but you can often find it on sale so I think I’ll make it count 😉 I have never been a huge fan of coloured lip glosses, preferring my glossy lips to be clear or sparkly instead of pigmented, but this line changed me forever. I currently own four gorgeous shades, Orange Tempo, Ruby Opera, Rose Symphony and Molto Mauve, and I can see myself adding more in the future.

Cost? $10-12. But you can often find it on sale!

And that’s it! I know there are many other brands and products out there that offer decent quality below $20: Joe Fresh, Quo and Cover Girl example, but these particular ones are products I’ve reached for the most.
