I think this is one of the last fully Julep posts for a while… I’m feeling a bit tired and ready to diversify my posts! But it was a fun run while it lasted, and if you haven’t yet be sure to check out my Julep giveaway (closes November 27/14, link in the sidebar!) and enter to win some awesome polishes.

My Julep box for November got here REALLY fast. I think it arrived on the 4th, though it’s taken me a few days to pull this post together. I stuck with the polishes this month (no beauty products this time!) and I’m pretty happy with what I ended up with. I even found a new favourite polish! Can you guess which one it is before you read the rest of the post? 🙂

This month Julep brought us The Friendsgiving Collection, I’m assuming because in the states they celebrate Thanksgiving in November (us Canadians celebrate it in October). The colours followed in the same vein as last month (warm, deep shades for fall) which is fine with me. That being said the last few months it hasn’t felt like Julep has really put out Collections, rather they’ve just put out collections of colours. Does that make sense? Hmm.

One fun thing that came in this month’s box was a little preview booklet of their Holiday Gifts for 2014! How exciting. 🙂 They’ve since updated them on the website, so if you want you can check out the full Holiday 2014 Line on Julep.com.

I need to take a minute to talk about these caramels. Oh. My gosh. I’ve heard people don’t like them, but this is basically a soft caramel wrapped around soft icing. It’s pure sugar and SO GOOD. I may have eaten them before I could take the picture below. Oops!

The beauty items this month were two mascaras: Go Big (volumizing) and Length Matters (lengthening). I’m satisfied with my current mascara (Lancôme Grandiose) and so I just stuck with the polishes this month. I’m surprised we didn’t get a coupon code for the mascara in our boxes (as we usually would have) but that might have to do with the fact I heard they over-sold the product. Hm.

I picked up three polishes this month – Julep Shari (a soft pink), Julep Marzia (a frosty pewter chrome) and Julep Jessie (a deep dark chocolate cherry).

Let’s get into it!

Julep Shari

Julep Shari
Price: $14 ($11.20 Maven) for 8mL
AvailabilityJulep
Colour Profile
: Classic With a Twist
Description: Delicate sweet pea crème
Finish: Crème

I always say that Julep does good neturals. In terms of the shade this goes along with that (it’s a lovely soft pink) but the application of this one was a bit of a challenge. It was goopy and streaky, and I think it could benefit from some thinner. It took three coats to reach opacity, and it’s pictured here without top coat.

Julep Marzia

Julep Marzia
Price: $14 ($11.20 Maven) for 8mL
AvailabilityJulep
Colour Profile
: It Girl
Description: Pewter chrome
Finish: Chrome  I’d say it’s more of a frost. I’ll compromise with Julep and call it a chrome frost.

Hmm. I don’t know how I feel about Marzia. It’s not really my colour, and as you can see it has major visible brush strokes. I was hoping to use it for stamping but I don’t know if it’ll be appropriate for that. Guess we’ll find out! It took two coats to build up to opacity, and pictured here it’s without top coat.

Julep Jessie

Colour Profile
: Bombshell
Description: Deep Kalamata crème
Finish: Crème

I hadn’t actually intended to get this polish originally (I was going to get a dark blue) but changed my mind at the last minute. And wouldn’t you know it this polish now joins the ranks of my favourite Julep polishes ever! In the bottle it looks like it’s going to be a jelly, but the first coat is a deep deep wine red that just takes on a more inky shade with a second coat. It looks almost purple but trust me when I say it’s a red.

Pictured is two coats (though only one is really needed) with no top coat. Application was perfect.

Overall pretty happy with this box… I got a soft neutral, a bold frosty metallic and a deep dark glossy crème. That’s a great mix!
