Rimmel London Shake it Fresh Mascara + Only 1 Matte Lipstick

Today I’m taking a look at the products I got in a recent Rimmel London VoxBox from Influenster. I was really pleased to open the box and see that I was sent a matte lipstick and mascara because lipstick and mascara are literally the two things I hate leaving the house without. Perfection!

I wore both of these around all week so I had ample time to gather my thoughts and feelings about them to share with you below. 🙂 Enjoy!

I think it’s kind of hilarious and amazing that they decided to name this “Shake it Fresh” and put it in a tube that looks like a drink shaker. When you shake it it makes a noise, too! (Assumedly from the cartridge with the mascara in it shifting up and down.) So fun.

So this mascara did make my lashes look good, and I had zero issues with clumping. All around a pretty solid mascara, though nothing amazing.

However I was disappointed with how long it took the product to dry. A good 10 minutes later I was walking outside to work and blinked a bit hard and felt the moisture come off on my cheek. I touched my lashes with a finger and they came away with mascara on them too. The product advertises that it doesn’t dry out and lasts longer than other mascaras, but the trade off seems to be it takes longer to dry on the lash. Because of this I don’t think I would buy this product on my own – I’m used to mascaras that are dry before I leave the house, and anything else is a hard pass.

The very first thing I noticed about this lipstick when I opened it was the scent. It has a soft and pleasant strawberry scent which kind of made me think of the lipsticks and lipglosses we all wore in grade 6 and 7 – hello Lip Smackers! I guess this is the grown up version? Haha. The scent doesn’t stick around after it’s applied on the lips though, and the scent isn’t strong enough to create an allergic reaction for me or anything (as I’m really sensitive to scents).

It applied well and was very matte, but it was a dry matte so if you have issues with dry lips this isn’t going to help. It felt nice on my lips though and the colour was lovely. It’s a very subtle and natural pink with my skin colour, so it’s definitely a shade I will wear again.

Wear time is good but not amazing – I had to reapply a few times throughout the day, especially after eating or drinking. That being said with the price point I don’t mind, and there are some really lovely other shades I do want to try out. So this is a product I’ll wear again and likely purchase in the future. 🙂

So for me the lipstick is a definite yes, but the mascara is a pass unfortunately. Ah well, one out of two isn’t bad! 🙂

Have you tried either of these products before? Do they sound like products you’d be interested in trying for yourself? Let me know what you think!
