Nail Art // The Digit-al Dozen Does Rainforest: Freehanded Leaf Beetle Mani

by - Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Today's mani is supposed to show a variety of Leaf Beetle (specifically the Chrysomelid Beetle [Alurnus Ornatus]) which google tells me lives in Costa Rica. :) The red and yellow shell just grabbed my attention and I knew I wanted to recreate it for this challenge!

Okay, so! Let's break down the polishes I used. :)

I started off with a base of Pretty & Polished No One Fights Alone and then made some rough branches with Konad Dark Green.

When that was dry I created the rough image of my beetles with White Acrylic Paint and then painted my beetles in with yellow (OPI My Twin Mimmy), red (OPI Over & Over A-Gwen) and Black Acrylic Paint. To finish off the beetle-y look I did some detailing with White Acrylic Paint and some iridescent flakes from L'Oreal Paris The Holographic Topcoat

I really love the use of flakies in this mani, both the ones in the base shade and the ones I dabbed on top. My favourite beetles are the ones that have the slightly multichromatic or iridescent shells, and though irl this specific beetles doesn't have that type of shell I decided to take creative liberties. :)

I've been really impressed with all the manis everyone has done for this challenge, so before you go make sure to check out some of the other gorgeous looks below! And then let me know what you think of my creepy cute beetles!

Thanks for visiting! xx
