ProcrastiNails: My Julep Maven (August 2013) It Girl Box Arrived! Marjorie, Nellie and Fiore Swatches and Review [pic heavy]

Here’s the second half of my Julep mail for this month! Earlier I showed you the gorgeous colours that came in the Champagne Trio and today we have the base colours I got in my box. Say hello to Julep Marjorie, Julep Nellie and Julep Fiore!

Julep was flawless in their presentation this month. The box itself was extra-jazzy with an announcement that they were turning 2 on the lid and gorgeous flowers printed all over the inside of the box. They really worked their theme this month! Both the quote and the extra gift were flower-themed to go with the overall collection which was The Garden Party Collection.

The extra gift was a packet of forget-me-not seeds, which as you can see I’m already trying to grow. My plan? To grow them, press them, dry them, and use them for nail art! Haha. Of course! Forget-me-not’s are gorgeous little flowers, so I really hope these grow. I’ll keep you posted! 🙂

And now… The polish!

Marjorie

Julep Marjorie is described on their website as a “citrus orange frost,” but honesly it seems more like a jelly to me. The frost/pearl finish they tried to make it have is very subtle and while visible in the bottle is almost non-existent to my eye on the nail. This is a very sheer polish. What you see on my nails is two thick coats without topcoat, and I think next time I wear it I’d add undies. That being said, orange isn’t really my colour so there’s very little chance I will wear this again. lol

Nellie

Julep Nellie is described as a “pink fuschia crème” and that’s exactly what it is. It went on lovely with two coats (no topcoat), and in fact was 99.99% opaque after just one coat. I put a second one on just to make sure it wouldn’t change the colour. As always my camera has a dislike for pinks, so this shade is actually a slightly deeper raspberry in real life. Either way it’s a gorgeous colour, and I will certainly be using it again!

Fiore

Even though it looks like it’s black, Julep Fiore is actually a dark smokey brown. It’s described as an “espresso brown crème” and it is my favourite colour from this set. Fiore went on beautifully, though it did need two coats as with only one coat it was very streaky. It’s a warm, solid colour that I just know is going to be perfect for fall. I may also use this shade instead of black as my contrasting colour in a few future designs.

Overall I’m in love with both Fiore and Nellie, though I would give Marjorie a complete pass. I think they’ll be suitable for both the end of summer and the start of fall. You can see these colours in action in my Straw Mani from last week. 🙂

So, what do you think. Any colours you wish you’d picked up? Or that you plan to get in the future? Let me know!

Thanks for visiting!! xx
